Conde Nast Publications; Alison Adler Matz Named Publisher of Brides

Alison Adler Matz has been named Publisher of Brides, it was announced by Bill Wackermann, Senior Vice President, Publishing Director, Glamour and Conde Nast Bridal Media. Her appointment is effective immediately

Most recently, Ms. Matz was Associate Publisher at Glamour. Prior to Glamour, Matz had been Associate Publisher at Teen Vogue and before that she had been at House & Garden in the same position.

Ms. Matz began her career at Conde Nast at Self in 1988 where she held various sales positions. After leaving in 1993, she held several senior positions including Advertising Director at both Mirabella and Country Home, as well as Associate Publisher at US Weekly.

Nielsen Sells Four Magazines to Interweave

Craft and arts publisher Interweave—a unit of Loveland, Colorado-based Aspire Media—has acquired four arts-related magazines from Nielsen Business Media.

The deal includes Nielsen’s American Artist, Drawing, Watercolor and Workshop magazines. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

According Aspire CEO Clay Hall, the four magazines and their franchises are “a great expansion” upon Interweave’s current portfolio, and his team is “eager to begin offering advertising and marketing clients access to our expanded portfolio and other cross-media platforms. Our strategy is to build multi-media platforms around strong magazine franchises. Clearly, American Artist and its related publications fit like a glove with our mission and business strategy.”

Oprah Winfrey rarely sits down for interviews, but now is as good a time as any. According to several reports (including a lengthy one on May 26 in The New York Times), her empire might be facing some tough times. Her ABC show "Oprah's Big Give" was canceled; the circulation of O, The Oprah Magazine has fallen 8 percent in three years, to 2.4 million, according to Audit Bureau of Circulations (a decline mirrored by many of the title's peers), and Nielsen Media Research ratings for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" reportedly show viewership has declined 7 percent this year.
