Rent: $900, prime location East Village room available for Jan and February (possibly longer). Room is (approx.) 9 x 15 and has two big windows. The apt is located on 6th st b/w 1st and 2nd ave, just blocks from St. Marks, as well as the 6, N, and F trains. Apt is great, has living room/kitchen, nice bathroom with tub. Peter Davis, the Davis Cup scion who did brief penance at Star magazine's L.A. bureau, is shopping a delectable novel titled "Dirt" about "ruthless, maniacal tabloid reporters at a celebrity weekly called Seen," we're told.

The carb-hating, Britney-marrying, athlete-misbehaving, politically polarizing journey that was 2004 is drawing to a close. And like all weary travelers at the end of a long, strange trip, we've got one thing in mind: Let's look at the pictures.

Magazines are always happy to oblige us, releasing end-of-the-year issues in December that wrap up the year's best offerings in entertainment, travel, investing, dining and so on. But the lists that really get people talking are the ones that focus on people. Time magazine's annual and much-hyped Person of the Year issue will hit newsstands Monday. Entertainment Weekly will announce its annual Entertainer of the Year in Friday's issue. People magazine weighed in with its annual Sexiest Man Alive issue a few weeks back.
