Ummm...

Is it normal for a straight guy who grew up in NYC to talk like a valley girl and like to wear pink a lot? What--Ed's just asking. I mean, who wants "normal" anyway, right? In fact, Ed sounds like a freakin' stereotyping xenophobe right now. OK, scratch all that and start over: Hi Schmoopies! Ed hearts you.

Party time in college mags
Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

College is the place to be, and the place to party, as two new magazines hope to show.

CO-ED, a quarterly with a high testosterone level, targets men on campus with its debut issue now hitting college bookstores, Barnes & Noble, newsstands and other outlets.

A sexy Jennifer Garner, star of the new film "Elektra," is featured on the cover and talks about her days as a theater major at Denison University, in Granville, Ohio.

Not to be confused with The Economist, the 176-page premiere also has stories about fake IDs, rugby, hangover cures and spring-break party towns.

A sex editor, Julia Baugher, writes about "The Sad Triumph of the Ugly Man."

There are also enough photos of "the sexiest and smartest women" enrolled at various colleges to have some men wanting their Christmas break to end quickly.

Published by CO-ED Magazine.com LLC from offices in Hoboken, the startup is counting on its Web site, CO-EDmagazine.com, to help generate more photos and submissions from readers for future issues.

CO-ED is the brainchild of founding publisher David Allen Liebler. Kirk Miller, formerly with Rolling Stone, is executive editor.

whisperjobs and internships

Ed hears ....
... that it's not too late to get a internship this Spring! The Deputy Editor of CosmoGIRL! magazine in New York City is looking for an intern towork as her editorial assistant from now through mid-May. Job duties include editing one column each issue; project management; nexis-lexis and internet research for stories; phone and on-the-street interviews; idea generating; and day-to-day administrative work. Intern's name will appear on the masthead and will have the opportunity to write bylined stories. It's an AMAZING experience for anyone who wants to get his/her foot in the door in the magazine world. Looking for students who are enthusiastic about a career in magazines. As internships are unpaid, applicants MUST be able to receive academic credit for the semester (okay if it's post-graduate credit). Looking for someone who can work at least four days per week, preferably five. Email your cover letter and resume to lsegal@hearst.com ASAP. Please note in subject line of email that you are applying for the Deputy Editor's intern spot. Very OK to mention Ed. CosmoGIRL hearts Ed!
