"Pecker Plans Spring Celeb Rollout"
By KEITH J KELLY
Thursday, January 27, 2005
American Media CEO David Pecker is working on a secret launch of a new celebrity lifestyle weekly, The Post has learned.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that a European suitor is sizing up the company for a buyout.
Speculation has centered on Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi or possibly German cable giant Kirsch. Pecker says it is not true, however. "No international company or American company has contacted me or my partners," he said.
The dollar's sagging value against the euro hashas raised speculation that another European invasion could be underway, similar to the one that reshaped the U.S. publishing landscape in the 1980s.
AMI's new magazinewill be called Celebrity Living Weekly. Pecker said it has not been greenlighted by the board.

"Off the Record" (Tom Wallace, Men??™s Journal)
By TOM SCOCCA
Thursday, January 27, 2005
As the new editorial director of Cond?© Nast Publications, Thomas Wallace approaches certain topics with delicacy. Magazines, for instance. Well, obviously magazines. Cond?© Nast publishes 17 titles??”iconic, industry-defining titles??”12 of which report to Mr. Wallace directly. By accepting the company??™s top editorial job, Mr. Wallace suddenly finds himself enrolled in a crash course in publishing, with only the sketchiest syllabus. This is no time to be making pronouncements about individual ones.
But so, historically, then??”stepping back from the present whirl??”what magazines have impressed Mr. Wallace?
"I would rather not go there," Mr. Wallace said.
