Bonnie Calls In a Spin Doctor
By PageSix staff

Embattled American Media Inc. editorial director Bonnie Fuller is in talks with political consultant Howard Wolfson - and sources say his real mission is crisis management.

Wolfson, a top strategist to Sen. Hillary Clinton, downplays what he'd do for the queen of the tabloids. "We have been talking with Bonnie Fuller about helping her with her book rollout," he told The Post's Media Ink columnist, Keith J. Kelly.

The deal for the how-to career advice title "From Geek to Oh My Goddess!" was signed in 2002 just before Fuller started as editor-in-chief of Us Weekly. After Jann Wenner failed to re-sign Fuller to a new contract, she jumped to AMI, where she oversees Star magazine primarily, plus National Enquirer and the Globe.

Condé Nast Makes the Case for Old-School Advertising
By Stuart Elliott

Talk about zigging when others are zagging: On the Monday after the biggest day of the year for television advertising (otherwise known as Super Bowl Sunday), a leading publisher will begin what it is calling its largest effort ever to promote the power of print as a medium.

The effort comes from the Condé Nast Media Group in New York, a new unit of the Advance Magazine Group division of Advance Publications that oversees corporate sales and integrated marketing for more than two dozen titles. Among them are Architectural Digest, Bride's, GQ, Glamour, Golf Digest, Gourmet, House & Garden, Jane, The New Yorker, Parade, Self, Vanity Fair, Vogue and W.

The effort has a multimillion-dollar budget, which includes an estimated $3.5 million to be spent on advertising in trade publications, on billboards, bus shelters and phone kiosks, and even as wraps for the scaffolds around construction sites. (The ads will of course also appear in the Cond?© Nast Media Group's publications.) The rest of the budget is to be spent on presentations to executives at media agencies and sponsorships of events like movie screenings and golf tournaments.
