Penthouse Ejects Booty Call Ad Pages
By Holly M. Sanders

http://www.nypost.com/business/23938.htm

Penthouse is cleaning up its pages in a move toward more upmarket erotica.

The beleaguered adult brand is stripping out the raunchy back-of-the-book ads for phone sex, escort services and hardcore videos, among other things.

"Traditional advertisers just didn't want to advertise...

'BusinessWeek' In Need Of Team-Building; Weekend Ropes Course Retreat TK
By Gawker Staff

Like Dave Chappelle, we hear voices. And sometimes, the voices tell us things about the state of unrest at BusinessWeek. Jon Fine, the mag newborn media columnist, reportedly has some staffers getting pissy. Specifically, it's not the typical BW protocol to bring in an Outsider for a Big Position, especially when said position happens to be a major column that, coincidentally, no one even knew was in the works. Not that any of this is Fine's fault, but he might want to keep an eye on his coffee mug.

Making things a bit more tense is newish BW EIC Steve Adler - who, we hear, is less than adored around the office. Certain managing editors particularly clash with him, and Fine's recent climb up the ladder has some veterans claiming they are ???not long for this world.??? How??¦dramatic.

Typical office jealousy and bitchery? Oh, you know it. And you love it, too, you filthy voyeur.

We're still aflutter with excitement over yesterday's miraculous appearance of Radar Online. While we're busy processing all that intelligence, fresh or otherwise, it seemed a good time to step back and answer some frequently asked questions about Radar and our seemingly irrational obsession with it. (As one ever-tactful Craigslist poster noted, ???Gawker looks like a goddamn Radar bukkake shot.???)

Um, so what exactly is this Radar thing you guys keep going on about?

'VF' And Wynn Las Vegas: Luxury Is As Luxury Does
By Gawker Staff
5/12/05
http://www.gawker.com/news/media/vanity-fair/vf-and-wynn-las-vegas-luxury-is-as-luxury-does-103292.php

The June issue of Vanity Fair redefines the term ???exclusive??? with its decidedly not-exclusive look inside Steve Wynn's new Las Vegas hotel. Naturally, a heavy-pocketed posse asserts the hotel's opening as the second coming, according to HotelChatter:

The article goes on to quote a bunch of Wall Street gurus who fawn all over Steve Wynn. Milken, Baron, and others all take turns giving Wynn high praise and comparing Emperor Goldmember [Wynn] to everyone from Isaac Stern to Renoir.

Jeez, high praise indeed, you would think that Wynn Las Vegas discovered the cure for AIDS. Just to be clear: We have stayed at the Wynn, and while it is a extremely nice Las Vegas hotel, as far as we know, the cure for AIDS is not inside one of the 2700 rooms. However, according to Vanity Fair, Wynn spent roughly nine times the amount of money the U.S. government spent on the worldwide AIDS crisis to create Wynn Las Vegas.

The Economist, published by The Economist Group, will produce a new annual lifestyle magazine targeting worldly, well-to-do readers called Intelligent Life. The magazine will debut May 14 with a rate base of 100,000.

"The Economist is about worldly affairs," said Nick Valery, editor of Intelligent Life and foreign correspondent for The Economist. "Intelligent Life is about worldly things and how new trends and developments in technology, medicine and society directly impact the lives, lifestyles and purchasing decisions of our readers."

Other subjects include travel, cars, fitness, finance and luxury. The first issue has a smattering of stories for the affluent reader, such as how to take a ride into space and shopping online for luxury fashion.

OMG! Are you ready for another celebrity weekly? Well, whether you like it or not, things are gonna be OK! One of our favorite British tabs OK! Magazine is set to make a big splashy debut in the US.

The mag proclaims, "OK! magazine, the No.1 newsstand revenue earner in Europe, is coming to America with a fully-staffed USA edition, based at offices in the heart of Manhattan. This will be the biggest celebrity weekly launch of 2005."

But before "the biggest celebrity weekly launch" of the year happens, things are gonna get a little bit bloody.
