Summer in New York means one thing, and one thing alone: Cond?© Nast sports leagues! The grass is green, the air is warm, and it's time for the Vogue girls to don their Team Judgeypants t-shirts while the GQ boys to pretend they know how to throw a baseball. Start sending us scores and schedules, and we'll be at every game with oranges and juice boxes. We hear that the softball teams for Vanity Fair and the New Yorker went head to head last night, with New Yorker editor David Remnick pitching. Our source says the game was surprisingly tense and ???exciting,??? but VF still easily won. First, VF gets the Deep Throat scoop, then they hand Remnick his ass on a plate at a softball game? Tread gently around 4 Times Square today; bruised egos are tender and Graydon Carter might be particularly maniacal. MORE ONLINE 2. GawkerThursday Budget Massacre By Gawker Staff 6/2/05 http://www.gawker.com/news/industry/index.php#thursday-budget-massacre-106265 So, uh??¦ how're things going with that new, ???slightly richer??? design? Is Alex Bhattacharji just not as fun as Sarah Gray Miller? Revolving Door [MediaBistro] Budget Living Gets New Look [Mediaweek] MORE ONLINE 3. Gawker'OK' Cherry-Picking 'Star' Staff? By Gawker staff 6/2/05 http://www.gawker.com/news/media/bonnie-fuller/index.php#ok-cherrypicking-star-staff-106189 Strange things are happening in Celebrity Weeklyville. In particular, UK import OK is crossing the pond - and they seem rather intent on raping and pillaging the AMI ship. In the past month or so, at least four Star staffers (reporter Jen Birn, business manager Anthony Fischetti, copy chief Katie Caperton, and managing editor Juliet Heller) have cleaned out their desks in favor of OK (entertainment editor Chris Kensler may also be included in that pack). Also heading to the UK import is AMI editorial director Martin Smith. I think six warm bodies counts as a bona fide poaching, no? If this continues, we wouldn't put the OK pirates past snatching Bonnie Fuller away from AMI - it'd be rather amusing if half the Star newsroom fled the editor's Canadian wrath, only to find that she's their new boss. MORE ONLINE 4. Chicago Sun-TimesRelaunched mag stays under Radar Lewis Lazare 6/3/05 http://www.suntimes.com/output/lazare/cst-fin-lew03.html We have to say this much for Maer Roshan: The man doesn't give up easily. When his first version of Radar, a magazine celebrating "pop, politics, scandal, style," ceased publishing in 2003 after its second issue (reportedly due to a funding crunch), Roshan, the magazine's editor in chief, refused to accept defeat. He went back into the fray searching for new financing and eventually hooked up with two big-time money men: real estate and media mogul Mort Zuckerman and financier Jeffrey Epstein. Their infusion of cash led to a second life for Radar, which returned to newsstands nationwide late last month. MORE ONLINE
