******* US Weekly, one of the largest markets for celebrity photographs, said yesterday that it would tighten policies with a formal ban on any pictures taken through "reckless" means. The move comes on the heels of a decision by the Los Angeles District Attorney's office to open a criminal investigation into the activities of "paparazzi" who break the law in pursuit of photographs. US, in a statement, said it was "formalizing" existing guidelines to ban pictures taken by photographers who "violated traffic laws, trespassed on private property or invaded the privacy of children at school." Investigators are looking into not only the reported crimes committed by the individual paparazzi, but also studying whether the competing paparazzi teams could be prosecuted on felony conspiracy charges. The increased scrutiny comes almost two weeks after police say a van driven by a photographer intentionally plowed into the side of a car driven by the film star Lindsay Lohan. MORE ONLINE
