******* Fairchild Publications is expected to name a replacement for Jane Pratt as editor of Jane, a source familiar with the process told FOLIO: today. Pratt announced last week that she would be leaving the editor-in-chief post at the magazine she founded in 1997 at the end of September. The new editor is a "big name," a well established talent, the source said, but declined to disclose the editor's identity pending final details. The concern over the magazine's ability to transcend its namesake is overblown, the source said, while acknowledging that the name "Jane" is fortuitous because it can represent everywoman. "The next editor will write something that resonates with twentysomething women and readers will no longer get agitated about Jane (Pratt) leaving." MORE ONLINE 2. New York PostTime's Flack Gets Ax By Keith J. Kelly 8/05/05 http://www.nypost.com/business/50769.htm VETERAN public relations executive Peter Costiglio is leaving his job as vice president, communications, at Time Inc. after Labor Day. Insiders are already bracing for more sweeping changes at the nation's No.1 magazine publisher. Time Inc. Editor in Chief Norman Pearlstine will formally hand off the reins to Editorial Director John Huey before the end of the year, according to knowledgeable sources. Both have a year to go on their current contracts, which expire in December 2006, but the change is expected after Labor Day. MORE ONLINE 3. Media LifeOK!, not hardly! Actually, pretty poor! By Toni Fitzgerald 8/05/05 http://www.medialifemagazine.com/News2005/aug05/aug1/4_thurs/news2thursday.html As anyone who's watched MTV's ???Newlyweds??? knows, the trick with Jessica Simpson is not in getting her to talk. It's getting her to shut up. And so when the new magazine OK! launched yesterday in New York with Simpson as the magazine's cover girl, one had to wonder what the joke was. Why would OK! pay Simpson a rumored $200,000 for an exclusive when she happily yaks with other magazines like Us Weekly for free? If that's how publisher Richmond Desmond, AKA Dirty Des in the UK, expects to drive his new magazine to the top of the U.S.'s celeb heap, he'd better set aside another $100 million atop the $100 million he says he's prepared to spend over six years.
