Jessica de Ruiter left Teen Vogue last week to be Camilla Nickerson??™s second assistant at W. Natasha Royt, who was previously the assistant to Vogue executive fashion editor Phyllis Posnick before moving over to contributing editor Nickerson, decamped with the stylist to W as well, where she will serve as her first assistant. De Ruiter, a Toronto native who once interned at W and WWD, joined Teen Vogue as accessories editor last October from Vogue??™s L.A. office, where she was the assistant to West Coast editor Lisa Love. SlateThe Middlebrow: TV Guide By Bryan Curtis 8/11/05 http://www.slate.com/id/2124300/?nav=tap3 When the call came forth last month to reinvent TV Guide, the challenge wasn't so much what to take out as it was what to leave in. TV Guide is a petrified magazine; like its doddering cousin, Reader's Digest, little remains in working order other than the title. "This isn't just a face-lift. It's a revolution," Editor Ian Birch promised USA Today, and for his magazine's sake he had better hope so. Fifty-two years after its creation, TV Guide's signature listings have been appropriated by onscreen guides and the Internet; its reporting has been filched by Entertainment Weekly; its readers, those gentle souls who would peel through dozens of black-and-white pages in search of the latest on Matlock, have dwindled from 20 million in 1977, when one in every five magazines sold was a TV Guide, to just 9 million today. More than one commentator has suggested that TV Guide simply cease and desist, and the more you consider the magazine's defects??”its quaintly analog approach to the digital age??”the more you wonder what there was to recommend it in the first place. http://www.nypost.com/gossip/51668.htm MAGAZINE insiders are snickering at the deal Jessica Simpson's manager/father, Joe Simpson, made with OK! magazine. Simpson graced the inaugural U.S. issue and got $200,000. "The deal also precludes Jessica from giving any other magazines major features until all the covers are done, which will be in like two years. So basically, Joe sold his daughter out for $200,000," the insider said. Another source said Jessica may be getting a $100,000 bonus for the party appearance. MORE ONLINE
