******* The top brass at People magazine have been in damage control overdrive lately, and it has nothing to do with the gossip rag's run-in with Brad Pitt's security detail. Multiple sources close to the mag say People has been trying to contain another problem in its L.A. office where Todd Gold, the weekly's west coast bureau chief, has been accused of sexually harassing a 29-year-old female reporter who worked for him. The woman's lawyer alerted People that Gold, one of the magazine's best-connected scribes and the author of over 20 celebrity tell-alls, had been making unwelcome advances toward her over the course of several months, says a highly placed insider.. ???He'd started buying her all these gifts, including a big bottle of perfume, and brought her everywhere. He tagged along on a lot of her assignments, too,??? says the source. ???He once insisted that she accompany him alone to an ad meeting in San Francisco, even though she didn't want to go. She's a very slight-figured woman, and the stress apparently made her start losing even more weight. It actually got to the point where her hair was falling out in clumps.??? MORE ONLINE

Brand-extension mania has seized Maxim, the men's magazine. Maxim already sells a line of bedding at Macy's stores, and Maxim Radio, the first around-the-clock radio station based on a magazine, started broadcasting in January on Sirius. Now, in an attempt to imprint the Maxim name on the minds of party animals everywhere, the magazine is hooking up with Rande and Scott Gerber, they of hip club-and-bar fame, to develop Maxim-branded lounges in major cities across the country. The venture, which hasn't yet been officially announced, follows the magazine's success with event parties, like those it has built around the Super Bowl. MORE ONLINE 3.
