Stallone Declares, Sly Lives!
By Richard Johnson
8/17/05
http://www.nypost.com/gossip/52072.htm

DON'T eulogize Sylvester Stallone's magazine, Sly, just yet! Stallone called PAGE SIX yesterday to rant about "untruths" and "lies" printed elsewhere about AMI pulling the plug on Sly.

"A couple of people were let go on the ad side," Stallone explained. "And they are blabbing to people. It is just sour grapes from people who were fired. Our last issue with Pamela Anderson on the cover did great and sold 125,000 copies ??” meeting our rate base ??” and remember, this was only in three markets. I am not another Rosie O'Donnell. I am serious about my magazine. We are already in talks with Gwen Stefani for our next cover."

I saw her at my gym and she said she wanted to do it, and the issue is 60 percent done. I spoke with [AMI head] David Pecker, and he is outraged at the lies and behind the magazine all the way."

Vogue Answers; What Do Men Want?
By Cathy Horyn
8/17/05
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/18/fashion/thursdaystyles/18VOGUE.html

Men have never exactly been alien to Vogue. Winston Churchill posed in the uniform he wore to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, Ernest Hemingway lounged bare-chested in Cuba, and the clowns of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" did the full monty. We saw Hitchcock's pear-shaped profile and Mick Jagger's lips - or, as Tom Wolfe put it around the time that he himself was photographed in Vogue, by Irving Penn: "This boy has exceptional lips. He has two peculiarly gross and extraordinary red lips. They hang off his face like giblets."

You can't say that Vogue has ever neglected distinguished men. Still, the news that Big Mama has spawned an offspring called Men's Vogue may come as a surprise to even the more liberal-minded sons (and daughters; let's be fair) of the feminist generation. Men's Vogue, which arrives on newsstands Sept. 6, joins Teen Vogue as the latest spinoff of this Cond?© Nast title under its editor, Anna Wintour, who is already brooding on Vogue Living.

Jay Fielden is the editor of Men's Vogue. A soft-spoken, likable Texan, Mr. Fielden, 35, began his career in 1992 in the typing pool at The New Yorker, which was sort of the literary equivalent of the mailroom at William Morris. "All I had to do was learn how to type," he said in a yonder-lies-the-cottonwood drawl.

Does Jane Need a Makeover, Now?

Will Jane fare better under Brandon?

Since Jane magazine was founded in 1997, advertisers have embraced the young women's magazine because it reflected the vision of founder Jane Pratt. But now that Ms. Pratt is leaving -- and former ELLEgirl Editor in Chief Brandon Holley has taken over -- Madison Avenue wonders whether Fairchild Publications needs to change Jane's image.

"The magazine should be called 'Brandon,' after the new editor. Jane doesn't exist. Jane has left the building," says Robin Steinberg, director of print services for Publicis Groupe's MediaVest. (Actually, Ms. Pratt is hanging around until Sept. 30. Ms. Holley started the job on Monday. Ms. Pratt says her future involvement with the magazine is still being determined.) "I will definitely monitor to understand the audience's reaction," Ms. Steinberg adds.

"I'm moving to NYC in October, and I'm looking for an apartment in Manhattan or Brooklyn. I'd like to spend about $900 a month, and would prefer to live with one or two women in their mid-20s. A little bit about me: I'm a 25-year-old female magazine editor who's respectful, friendly, tidy and generally easy to live with. I don't smoke or have any pets. I'm social -- my previous job was as a restaurant/nightlife editor, so I'm used to being out and about on a regular basis -- but I'm also happy to relax at home. I've lived in NYC before (as an intern), and am beyond thrilled to be returning! If you want to get in touch, email me at newapartmentnyc@gmail.com. Thanks!"
