Loughlin, the president and CEO of Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc.'s TV Guide Publishing Group, said he'll start a new job as executive vice president of Hearst Magazines on Oct. 24. His interim successor will be Anthea Disney, a one-time editor-in-chief of TV Guide and executive chairman of Gemstar-TV Guide. Gemstar-TV Guide is about 42 percent-owned by News Corp., the parent company of The Post. MORE ONLINE 2. Washington PostMen's Vogue: Guys and Dollars By Peter Carlson 9/13/05 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/12/AR2005091201555.html Human history is, among other things, a compendium of bad ideas -- monarchy, communism, Prohibition, the designated hitter, the XFL, reality TV. And the company is pondering the possibilities of a magazine to be called Vogue Living. Why? Wasn't one Vogue enough? Was there a groundswell of demand for more Vogues? Were men and teenagers besieging the Conde Nast building, wearing Armani suits and chanting, "We want our own Vogues," while pumping their meticulously manicured fists into the air? MORE ONLINE 3. Both Time Inc. and Turner Broadcasting, CNN's parent company, are owned by Time Warner. Carrie Welch, a spokesperson for the Fortune Group, says the merger will align its financial and business content under a single moniker, and that the move is by no means a cost-cutting one. MORE ONLINE 4. Financial ExpressPenthouse raises $48 million to battle Playboy By Leon Lazaroff 9/12/05 http://www.financialexpress.com/latest_full_story.php?content_id=102298 Penthouse Media Group Inc., publisher of the men's magazine, raised $48 million in part to fund an adult entertainment broadcast network that would compete with Playboy Enterprises Inc.'s Spice and New Frontier Media Inc.'s Erotic. Penthouse raised $15 million in preferred stock and $33 million in bonds, according to a private-placement notice filed September 6 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The company will use $26.2 million to repay debt, including money owed to Chief Executive Officer Mark Bell's buyout firm in Boca Raton, Florida. It will devote $11.5 million to developing the new network. New York based Penthouse Media has been changing the focus of its magazine from pornography to less-racy men's lifestyle articles. Television is another leg of Bell's strategy to turn around the closely held company, which his firm bought out of bankruptcy protection. MORE ONLINE 5.
