The Last Women's Mag Frontier: China
By Gawker Staff

http://www.gawker.com/news/photos/index.php#the-last-womens-mag-frontier-china-126514

Our man in China sends the above photo and reports:

The women's monthlies are having a catfight to the death here in Shanghai. Vogue and Marie Claire have billboards covering every rich block in town. To a lesser extent Elle, Harper's, and others have also joined the fight. This makes it a verifiable Royal Rumble of fashion - that is, until this weekend, when Vogue took off the gloves and rolled out their fucking buses. I give in - just please somebody, make them stop.

We're just amazed: Anna lets people who ride buses read the magazine?

'New York' Mag: Always Be Closing
By Gawker Staff

Funny: To magazine people, ???closing??? usually means something different than it does to salespeople. And, frankly, we don't so much want to be doing their kind. (We don't really want to be doing our kind, either, but it goes with the territory.) Somehow, though, lines got a little crossed yesterday at New York magazine, where some business folks decided to let no selling opportunity go unexploited and therefore reconfigured the email system to automatically append this flackery to the end of every outgoing message:

We understand the editorial folks were most unamused, and, fortunately, by the end of the day of the day the ads were gone.

Which goes to show that there are some real advantages to having the billionaire owner's kid - who, reasonably reliable rumors have it, through some sort of corporate, tax-avoidance, shell-game maneuver is actually the technical owner of the mag - newly started as an associate editor.

HAIL TO THE CHIEF: Teen People's West Coast editor isn't sticking around to find out what changes Lori Majewski, the magazine's new managing editor, has planned. Lauren Tabach-Bank is leaving to become West Coast bureau chief of Celebrity Living, Star's sister publication. She replaces Mary Ann Norbom, who is leaving the firm. Reached by phone Tuesday, Norbom, who previously held the same post at Star, declined to discuss the circumstances of her departure. -Jeff Bercovici

Allure's Big 10 Bash

The folks at Cond?© Nast sure like things big and heavy. The back-breaking September issue of Vogue aside, take the gift bag-at last night's Allure party celebrating the magazine's 10th anniversary of its "Best of Beauty" awards. Weighing in at 35 pounds and filled to the brim with over 100 full-size products, the S.W.A.G. even came with a staff of ten burly men hired specifically to assist the fashionable beauty executives.

???How am I going to take that home? I can barely lug a 10 pound bag of kitty litter,??? asked Lanc??me vice president of public relations Kerry Diamond. ???Drag it home if you have to,??? mused editor Linda Wells, swathed in a sea of French designs, including a YSL, Chanel and Lanvin outfit, topped off with a spritz of Joy by Jean Patou perfume. But before guests like Simon Doonan, Olivia Chantecaille, Jane Lauder and John Demsey could make off with their goodie bags, they savored a special performance by Joss Stone at the Rainbow Room, a decidedly more grand affair than the previously intimate morning f??tes held at the Four Seasons Restaurant.

Enninful Joins Vogue
By Jim Shi

Those attentive front row eagles might have noticed a new addition to the Vogue team. Edward Enninful, a freelance stylist who has long worked with Steven Meisel and Italian Vogue, has joined Anna Wintour's camp, in a capacity described as loosely overseeing former editor Camilla Nickerson's duties.

A spokesperson for Vogue confirmed Enninful's placement, nothing that he will continue to be a freelance contributing editor. ???He's with us in a styling capacity,??? Wintour noted at the Derek Lam show, though she wouldn't confirm if Enninful would be making the trip to Europe with the Vogue team. ???He has a shoot in L.A. this week, so it's not determined yet,??? she added. As The Daily first reported in April, Nickerson made light of the fact that she was leaving Vogue after 11 years to join W.
