******* TRANSATLANTIC TRUMAN: James Truman is returning to the magazine world, but not to New York. In his new post as chief executive officer and managing editor of LTB Holding Ltd., Truman, the former editorial director of Cond?© Nast (parent of WWD), will be based in London, although he noted the job will entail "regular trips to New York." MORE ONLINE VANITY'S CHILD: Fashion director Anne McNally is technically only employed by Vanity Fair for another two weeks or so, but she should have no trouble keeping tabs on her former co-workers. McNally's daughter, Jessica, who has been working in VF's fashion department since 2003 when she started as an intern, will continue in her present capacity as a freelancer even after her mother leaves the magazine next month. (Vanity Fair, like WWD, is part of Cond?© Nast Publications Inc.) MORE ONLINE TIME AND SPACE: It was a power scene at Time managing editor Jim Kelly's apartment Monday night, as Mike Wallace, Charlie Rose, New York City police commissioner Ray Kelly and others gathered to congratulate Jay Carney on his promotion to Time's Washington bureau chief. (Carney, whose wife is ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman, succeeds Michael Duffy, now an assistant managing editor at Time.) No less a personage than Mayor Michael Bloomberg offered the toast, concluding, "My only regret is you don't work for that better journalism company, Bloomberg." MORE ONLINE

An Associated Press war photographer from Germany, a crime reporter from Bangladesh who was stabbed and beaten, and the founder of a magazine threatened with closure by Iran's government because of its coverage of women's rights all received Courage in Journalism Awards Tuesday from the International Women's Media Foundation. The foundation's 15th annual awards were presented to Anja Niedringhaus, Sumi Khan and Shahla Sherkat at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria attended by more than 500 people who support its belief that "no press is truly free unless women share an equal voice." Niedringhaus, 40, who has worked on the front lines covering every major conflict from the Balkans in the 1990s to the war in Iraq, was blown out of a car by a grenade while caught in crossfire in 2002 in Kosovo in 1998 and was part of a group mistakenly bombed by NATO forces at the Albania-Kosovo border crossing. She was the only woman on a team of 11 AP photographers awarded the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography. MORE ONLINE

Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, the founders of alternative weekly chain New Times, are slated to be in New York City today to talk to Village Voice Editor in Chief Don Forst and others in the wake of the companies' merger deal. A final merger between the two chains of alternative weekly papers is expected to take months to finalize. The feeling of trepidation is unlikely to ease today because the new owners are unlikely to do any state-of-the-chain address. MORE ONLINE
