MORE ONLINE 2.MinReporting the Jessica Simpson-Nick Lachey Breakup By Steve Cohn 12/07/05 http://www.minonline.com/mb_topstory.htm Americans were thinking turkey, not gossip, at 10 p.m. (Eastern) on Thanksgiving Eve (November 23) when usmagazine.com broke the news that Simpson and Lachey were separating after three years of marriage and ad infinitum rumors. But even at that "off- peak" hour, the media world had plenty to digest, and on Thanksgiving, the syndicated Access Hollywood reported that US Weekly got the exclusive because Dan Klores is publicist for both Simpson/Lachey and US Weekly editor-in-chief (since July 2003) Janice Min. Spokespeople at US Weekly parent Wenner Media confirmed the Klores connection, but they say that it was Min's relationship with the couple that got her the story. "Jessica and Nick trust Janice, and they have always given their news to her," we are told. As for Access Hollywood, the Wenner spin is that star reporter Billy Bush (yes, he is related to the President) has a dislike for the maga zine. "When we reported [October 17] that the marriage was in trouble, Bush trashed us on the [ABC late-night] Jimmy Kimmel program. AH's giving credit to Klores, and not to Janice, continued the pattern." Of course, the timing came after the editorial close of all the gossips' December 5 is sues, so they had a field day on December 12, with US Weekly's contribution on page 1. MORE ONLINE 3.New York PostThe Source Tossed from Crib By Keith J. Kelly 12/07/05 http://www.nypost.com/business/59105.htm The Source, the embattled hip-hop magazine, is apparently now a magazine without an office after it was forced out of its latest digs on West 23rd Street The Source is accused of not paying $156,000 in back rent to Forbes Inc., which subleased the office space that was originally used by its Forbes.com, as Media Ink reported back on Oct. 28. The dispute was revealed in court papers filed by lender Textron Financial Corp., which is trying to force The Source into receivership after it claimed the media company defaulted on an $18 million loan. MORE ONLINE 4.Editor & Publisher???Vanity Fair??™ Offers Fresh Details on Judith Miller Saga By Staff 12/06/05 http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001615297 In a lengthy feature piece on this autumn's Judith Miller saga forthcoming in the January issue of Vanity Fair (on sale Dec. 13), writer Seth Mnookin covers much familiar ground but also reveals new details and complaints from the reporter's colleagues at The New York Times. Publisher Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr. also gets a good working-over from unnamed in-house critics. One of the fresh scoops in the piece, which is titled, "Unreliable Sources," concerns Sulzberger barring Times reporters from talking to Russell Lewis, the former president and CEO of The New York Times Co., when they were working on their extensive report on Miller going to jail and then testifying before the Plame grand jury. Mnookin relates that according to sources, when the reporters pressed Sulzberger on why he did that, he replied with a laugh and a quip: "Because I don't know what the f---he's going to tell you." (Earlier this year Lewis co-authored with Sulzberger a Times Op-Ed piece championing Miller's cause.) MORE ONLINE
