******* OVER AND OUT: Radar magazine has folded for the second time. Editor in chief Maer Roshan released the following statement to The New York Observer Wednesday night: "Radar Magazine and Radar Online made a significant impact on the cultural landscape, breaking news and publishing groundbreaking stories that struck a chord with our unique, much-coveted audience. We are currently engaged in productive discussions with a number of new investors and I look forward to continuing operations in the near future." A source with knowledge of the situation said backer Mort Zuckerman initially wanted to continue funding Radar's Web site, but ultimately decided to pull out of that as well. A WHOLE NEW HER: Katie Couric clearly has been working hard on her image recently, but the effort goes back much farther than that. In the past 14 months, Couric has received a personal makeover from Vogue (featured in the March 2005 issue of the magazine, which aired as a segment on "The Today Show"), a home office makeover from Real Simple (also for a segment on "Today" in October 2004) and now her daughters' bedrooms have gotten the treatment in the January issue of House Beautiful. It turns out, though, the only transformation Couric requested was the one that appeared in Vogue. For the home office makeover, Real Simple collaborated with her on the idea as part of the magazine's annual "Get Organized" series on "Today." And her daughters' rooms were done by her longtime interior designer, Karen Reisler. The photos only ended up in House Beautiful because Reisler has a friend who works there. MORE ONLINE

One day after Time Inc. gave notice to 105 unlucky employees, including some of its highest-ranking veteran executives, people inside the company -- and at sibling units within Time Warner -- are asking what??™s next? In addition to saving on personnel costs -- a savings Time Inc. would not disclose yesterday -- the company clearly plans a run at ramping up its own brand, no longer ceding female audiences and big-event programs in the public mind to competitors like Conde Nast Publications. ???The way that we??™ve clustered magazines together is a great starting point,??? said Nora McAniff, who along with John Squires was appointed co-chief operating officer, new positions for the company. ???This is just taking it to the next level. ???One goal in 2006, from my perspective, it to make it very clear to the marketplace what we bring and the power that we bring,??? she said. ???I think we??™ve been quiet. You??™re going to hear us talk.??? To that end, Time Inc. tapped a new brand evangelist yesterday, appointing Robin Domeniconi, who had been president and publisher of Time Inc.??™s Real Simple, to handle corporate sales and marketing under Ms. McAniff. ???We??™re not just a magazine company,??? Ms. McAniff said. ???It??™s what we do, but we??™re also builders and providers of content.??? MORE ONLINE

In a letter to several gay, lesbian and human rights advocacy groups, Ford Motor Co. said it would continue running advertisements in gay magazines for Land Rover, Jaguar, as well as the rest of its auto brands, including Mazda, Lincoln and Volvo. The reversal comes just a week after Ford came under fire for deciding to pull ads for Land Rover and Jaguar next year amidst pressure from conservative Christian group American Family Association. Last Wednesday, Ford pulled the Land Rover and Jaguar ads after the AFA pressed Ford to stop running ads in gay-oriented magazines such as Out and The Advocate. The Detroit automaker had denied that AFA pressure had anything to do with its decision. In a statement, the company said last week that the two brands "made a business decision about their media plans and it would be inconsistent with the way we manage our business to direct them to do otherwise." The letter today from Joe Laymon, group vp, corporate human resources, said Ford decided to continue running the ads in an effort to squelch the notion that the Detroit automaker would stop marketing to gay consumers.
