It was a photo finish, but in the end it was Gina Sanders by a nose. The Teen Vogue publisher was crowned Cond?© Nast's publisher of the year for 2005 at a dinner in Miami Tuesday night. Sanders and around 30 of her colleagues were in town for their annual publishers' meeting, a three-day m?©lange of work, play and schmoozing. Heading in, Sanders and Glamour publisher Bill Wackermann were named by insiders as front-runners for the coveted honor, as reported Tuesday in WWD (which is a unit of Cond?© Nast). In what was either a coincidence or someone's idea of a joke, the two were paired for Tuesday's doubles tennis round-robin. "He's a great tennis player," Sanders said. "We had a great match and a lot of fun." They didn't win, however; Vogue's Tom Florio and Cookie's Eva Dillon were the tournament champs. Sanders confessed her tennis skills are rather rusty: "I hadn't played since Camp Glenmere for Girls in 1970."

It looks like London's gain will be Paris' loss. Anna Wintour, editor in chief of American Vogue, is not expected to attend any runway shows during Paris Fashion Week Feb. 26-March 5. A Vogue spokesman said Wintour plans to attend the full week of British collections Feb. 14-18, plus Milan after that, but that she could not stay away from her office for the duration of the international circuit. Wintour is expected to travel to Paris after Milan to preview some collections before returning to New York, however, "it's not likely that she'll be seeing any shows," he added. As reported, the English editor is attending the London shows to promote British fashion and the upcoming "Anglomania" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
