******* Ellegirl magazine is folding. A company spokeswoman confirmed the news, saying the brand would continue on as a Web site.? "An evaluation of recent research suggested this was the direction the business was going in," said the spokeswoman. ? While the magazine will cease publication with the June/July issue, investment on the Web and wireless will be increased. 2. WWD
Time Out has its second new top editor in a year. Brian Farnham, deputy editor of Details, is joining the city title as editor in chief, replacing Joe Angio, who left in December. Details editor in chief Dan Peres broke the news in an e-mail to his staff Monday: "For as much as this is a blow to the magazine, I couldn't be happier for — not to mention, more proud of — Brian." Farnham, who spent five years at Details, took on additional duties in September 2004 when then-executive editor Andrew Essex left to join start-up Absolute. Essex's position was finally filled in February when Bill van Parys moved over from sister title Jane. (Both magazines are part of Cond? Nast Publications, parent of WWD.) At Time Out, Elizabeth Barr has been serving as acting editor in chief since Angio's departure. Cyndi Stivers, Time Out's founding editor in chief, left her post as editorial director a year ago for an executive job with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. MORE ONLINE 3. Media Industry Newsletter At Conde Nast's Much-Anticipated "Business Project": DAVID CAREY'S TOP LIEUTENANT IS RONDA CARNEGIE. 4/4/06 http://www.minonline.com/mb_topstory.htm The New Yorker's Los Angeles-based ad director, whom Carey inherited when he became vp/publisher in June 1998, reunites with him--albeit still 3,000 miles away--as associate publisher of the announced-last-August multimedia venture that is about to get a name and is scheduled to launch about this time next year. "Ronda was an unsung star at TNY, as she was responsible for many of our big sales transactions. Her enthusiasm is incredible, and she gives us a huge West Coast presence," says Carey, who, for now, has the dual title of president/publisher. Here are his other initial business hires (editorial hires are being made by editor-in-chief Joanne Lipman): MORE ONLINE
