******* THE big man from OK! is going home. Christian Toksvig, the front man for Richard "Dirty Des" Desmond on the U.S. launch of celebrity weekly OK!, said goodbye to the New York staff late Wednesday. He insists that all is fine here and there is "a long way to go" before the American OK! burns through the $100 million that Desmond has pledged to spend here. Toksvig, the firm's North America CEO, told them he's going home to merry England - which isn't exactly his home, since Toksvig's actually from Denmark. MORE ONLINE Cond? can do What crackpot said Joanne Lipman is having trouble staffing her new business magazine Cond? Nast Portfolio? Sources say "Den of Thieves" and "Disney Wars" author James B. Stewart, who writes for Smart Money and The New Yorker, has rebuffed an offer to join. But she has gone about filling the meat and potato positions below the upper tier. New York Observer media reporter Gabriel Sherman spent the past 31/2 years on the salmon-colored weekly and is leaving mere weeks before actor Robert DeNiro takes over. MORE ONLINE Min's In: In other baby news, Janice Min returned to the offices of Wenner Media this week for the first time since the birth of her baby boy, Tate, on May 7. One source speculated that she was worried because the best-selling issue in Us Weekly history was the Janet Jackson mag, which sold a record 1.4 million the week of May 26. MORE ONLINE Zee lands: The Zee man has landed. Joe Zee seemed to have produced the hotter of the men's shopping titles when he was editor-in-chief of Vitals at the old Fairchild Publications. But the magazine seemed to lose out to its troubled sibling rival Cargo, which was being published at the old Cond? Nast… Vitals and its sidekick Vitals for Women were both folded in late October. He's landed at House & Garden, working for Dominique Browning. "I'll be producing stories about design, style, fashion and entertainment, trying to bring all those worlds together," he said. 2. NY Daily News Hillary Clinton wants Gail Sheehy on ice. Sen. Clinton apparently would like the world to know that she's giving the silent treatment to Vanity Fair contributing editor Sheehy, who's toiling on a high-impact profile expected to run before the November election. A Clinton spokesman told me yesterday: "While we are cooperating with other projects in the works about Sen. Clinton, it is no secret that over the years many friends and associates of the senator have felt burned by previous encounters with Ms. Sheehy, so we are not asking them to cooperate this time." The 58-year-old Sheehy has written repeatedly about Bill Clinton's wife since the 1992 presidential campaign, including a 1999 biography, "Hillary's Choice," and has been trying to snag interviews with Hillary loyalists for the past six weeks. But she's getting turn-downs from Clinton associates who - before agreeing to talk - sought guidance from the senator's office. MORE ONLINE
3. WWD Celebrity magazine editors are expert at spotting the swell of a pregnant woman’s belly — so much so that they sometimes notice it months or even years before it’s actually visible. But no one seems to detect phantom fetuses more often, or more spectacularly, than Star. Under the watchful gaze of editorial director Bonnie Fuller, no errant pouf of fabric or bulge of fat is safe from being labeled a “bump.” But what happens when someone like Fuller gets her hands on photographic proof that what appeared to be a bun in the oven is really nothing more than wishful thinking? She publishes it, of course — and pretends it doesn’t exist. Witness the new issue of Star, with numerous photos of a bikini-clad Nicole Kidman. In the shots, Kidman displays rippling washboard abs, apparently contradicting Star’s July 3 cover story, which claimed to offer the “1st look at her bump!” The new evidence was persuasive enough that competitor Life & Style, which had also declared Kidman to be expecting, backpedaled on that claim. Star, however, wouldn’t back down, insisting she “seems to be sporting a small bump.” Asked whether the pregnancy story was wrong, Fuller, via a spokesman, said, “Time will tell.” MORE ONLINE
4. NY Times Traders on Wall Street are a well-heeled lot. For betting their firm's money on stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities or derivatives, they routinely take home big salaries and bigger bonuses. Trying to tap into that rich market is a magazine called Trader Monthly. Since 2004, it has been blending a bit of Institutional Investor with GQ and dashes of Maxim to give its readers sage market articles to help them profit on, say, emerging markets, alongside articles about luxuries like $20 million jets and helicopters. It has outlasted the novelty value of its debut and the loss of one of its biggest advertisers, Refco, the futures and commodities broker that collapsed last fall. The editor in chief of Trader Monthly, Randall Lane, said the magazine tries to merge a trade publication with a lifestyle magazine. Not only is it important to know what is happening in the market, he said, but it also helps to know where to buy an expensive watch after making $100,000 in a day. MORE ONLINE
