someone showed her how to put the words together. Since then, she's put words together for over 50 periodicals, and has five books to her credit. In the process, she's finding her reputation moving from jack-of-all-trades to Catholic/Christian genre writer.
(Click
here for more about the book) Although she has written nonfiction for over 30 periodicals, her real passion is fiction, which she writes in order to satisfy the many characters who insist on living their lives inside her head. Let's face it: when you have a teen whose emerging psychic abilities have unhinged him mentally yet destined him to save two worlds, a wacky witch who cures little kids of bad habits, and a cynical dragon detective, you must either tell their stories or go nuts! Karina gets a lot of energy from working with others, especially her husband Robert. While on a "married date" they dreamed up a near-future universe where humans have colonized the solar system and an order of nuns,
Our Lady of the Rescue, provides space search and rescue services. Seeking a home for these stories led them to editing the Christian SF anthology Leaps of Faith (out of print) and the Catholic SF anthology, Infinite Space, Infinite God (2007: Twilight Times Books), which won the EPPIE Award for best science fiction ebook. Their stories have been published in these anthologies and in Hereditas Magazine, and they are working on their first "Rescue Sisters" novel, Discovery. Karina's other favorite writing playground is her Faerie/Mundane universe of Dragon Eye, PI, which she invented after watching a film noir satire on "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" She' been searching for a new take
on dragons for an anthology she wanted to submit to, and what could be more original than a cynical dragon compelled by St. George to serve humankind who ends up a down-and-out detective in a non-magical dimension? She sold the story to Firestorm of Dragons (2008: Double Dragon Press), has another story in the Sword Review, and has several other short stories in the hopper. In addition, her Dragon Eye PI serial mystery, "Magic, Mensa and Mayhem" (in the North Dakota newsletter, The Prairie Dawg) won the Mensa Award for best fiction contribution. She's novelized that story as well. Karina's latest work in progress has been the trilogy, The Miscria. This series is about a young man in mental
hospital whose psychic abilities are destined to send him to another galaxy, where he must save two worlds from destruction She is presently shopping the first of the trilogy to publishers. In addition, to her fiction, Karina has written articles on parenting, pregnancy, writing, and people. She's been in Fit Pregnancy, Parenting Magazine, and many local Catholic diocesan magazines. She still writes regularly for Hereditas and Montana Catholic. She also publishes a writer's e-zine about incorporating religion into fiction, Faith-Filled Fiction. (http://isigsf.tripod.com/faithfilledfiction ) The publishing of Infinite Space, Infinite God has driven her into the world of marketing. She has built her own websites, been on a virtual book tour featuring blogs and internet radio. She’s become quite familiar with approaching bookstore owners and the press, and networking, networking, networking. As she learns the tricks of publicizing her work, she’s also tried to share her knowledge with others by teaching courses, offering “primers” on her website, answering questions
and offering advice on the world of writing. She's a regular guest at the MuseOnline Writer's Conference, a free week-long workshop in October. She has several blogs, websites and a live chat: www.fabianspace.com, where you'll find info about her, her writing and her eclectic writing/homeschooling/humor/just-gotta-say-it blog http://isigsf.tripod.com, the official site of Infinite Space, Infinite God www.virtualbooktourdenet.blogspot.com, where she'll gladly advertise your book if you'll return the favor to someone else www.freewebs.com/dragoneyepi, where you can learn more about the fantasy noir dragon detective Vern, his partner Sister
Grace, and the world of Dragon Eye, PI. FabChat, a live-chat with a guest author. (www.fabianspace.com, click on FabChat) She's President of the Catholic Writers' Guild, owner of Catholic Writers Online, and active in a half-dozen or more groups. She homeschooled her four children for five years, eats way too much take-out pizza, and loves being the wife of a military officer because it takes her to so many interesting places, from Japan to Minot, ND. | On the Products page you will find some great recommendations.
