When they fail in their online ventures almost all marketers think
either they do not know the business, either they do not provide
a high service related to advertising, networking, market, prospects
and so on.

The truth is marketing an online business is like any game.
If you know the rules you may avoid many mistakes and you are
much more likely to achieve success.

Speaking about the marketing rules, let's talk about some of the
most important ones:

1. Focus the marketing activity on customers' needs.
It is a fact that the best way to earn customers is to show them
you understand the problems they are facing. Very often service
professionals focus their marketing on their expertise, and try to
impress clients with their approach and services they offer. They
simply forget that clients' primary concern is getting problems
solved and having their spoken and unspoken needs met. Instead
of marketing your credentials, market your knowledge and the
solutions you offer to answer the customers' questions.

2. Find the right niche of the market
If you are not getting a positive response to your marketing efforts
then you may not have targeted your market and their specific
interests and needs precisely enough. Think that it's impossible
to be everything to everybody. Instead to focus a large area of
market better narrow and deep it. It's more profitable to touch
25 people four times then 100 people just one time. That means
you have reach a loyal group of customers and you may hope to
have repeated sales.

3. Build your network.
May be I was rather unclear saying to deep your market. As
you probably know people like to buy products from people they
know and trust. Networking is a good idea to see who's interested
in your products and services. Networking is going deeply into
your targeted market getting new customers to you.

4. Stay in Touch.
Take care to refresh memories. Is better to assume your target
market has forgotten about the range of solutions you offer. Stay
in touch with your people on a monthly or at a minimum quarterly
basis. Use a newsletter to do this, it's the best solution.

Are you attracting a large number of prospective customers at the
lowest possible cost ...and converting the maximum number of them into
paying customers? It's not very difficult if you follow these 3 simple
steps.

Step 1: Control Your Advertising Expense

Look for ways to keep your sales volume growing without increasing
your advertising expense. For example:

* Negotiate Price With Advertisers

Many advertisers are willing to negotiate a special discount to keep your
business - or to get it away from their competitors. Take the initiative
when you're placing an ad. Ask for a discount ...or a bigger discount
than the one already offered

* Trim Your Ads

Reduce the size of your ads so you can run more ads without increasing
your total cost. Don't be surprised if some of your short ads generate a
bigger response than your long ads. The most effective ad I ever used
had only 11 words.

Step 2: Generate Some Unpaid Publicity

Publicity is what you get when someone else promotes (or you get them
to promote) your business. It establishes more credibility with prospective
customers than advertising ...and it generates sales at a much lower cost.

Start a publicity program for your business - or expand the one you
already have. Here are 3 simple ways you can use publicity to generate
business:

(1) Find something newsworthy about your business. Write about it in
a news release and distribute it to publishers.

(2) Contact non-competing businesses serving customers in your market.
Offer to publicize their products or services to your customers in exchange
for their publicizing your services to their customers.

(3) Write a short "how to" article to help customers in your targeted
market. Promote a product or service related to the topic of the article
in a short byline at the end. Distribute your article to ezine publishers,
web sites and trade magazines serving your targeted market. Give them
permission to publish it at no cost.

Caution: Don't expect unpaid publicity to replace the results you get with
advertising. Use it to supplement your advertising. You control where and
when your advertising appears. You cannot control where or when you get
publicity ...or if you get any at all.

Step 3: Improve Your Selling Propositions

Most prospects who take the time to consider your product or service
would like to buy from you. But they decided that other things they want
are either more important or more urgent.

You can capture many of these sales by dramatically improving your offer.
Create a "good deal" that's so enticing it becomes their first choice.

You don't have to reduce your price to improve your offer. Instead,
simply load your offer with bonuses. Make sure your bonuses have a high
perceived value to your customers ...even if they cost you little or
nothing.

Always include an expiration date for your offer. Give prospects the
choice to either accept your proposition within a short time or forfeit it.
This will motivate many prospects to delay some other purchase so they
can buy your product or service now.

Tip: To create an absolutely irresistible offer - include a special discount
price AND a set of valuable bonuses in your offer.

Controlling your advertising expense and getting unpaid publicity will
attract potential customers at the lowest cost. Improving your selling
propositions will convert the maximum number of those prospects into
paying customers.

Together, these 3 steps are what I call "smart marketing".

Jargon tends to creep into our language no matter what business
we're in. When I meet with teachers at my kid's parent
conference, they use a lot of terms and codes I don't understand.

We tend to do the same thing in business. A letter or email to a
customer can use business-speak phrases like "in our considered
opinion" and "enclosed please find." Simplify these into
everyday language: "we think" and "here is."

Often we use jargon and complex phrases in an effort to seem
smart, serious, professional, or give our ideas more weight.
While that may be a smart thing to do when communicating with
other workers in your field, customers react best to straight,
plain talk.

After you write something, try to speak the same ideas. If you
are saying something you wouldn't say in normal spoken
conversation, change it to sound more natural.

This ability to put even complex ideas into everyday language is
the hallmark of many successful politicians. They know their
careers depend on helping voters connect with their ideas.

Will they beat a path to your door?
Will customers be lining up or calling upon you if you don't market
your business and let people know you exist?

Most likely not.  It's a shame, but that's usually how it is.  Putting out a
sign or putting up a website, doesn't bring you many customers on its own.

other efforts will do the trick.  However, marketing your business doesn't
have to be intimidating, and you don't have to cold call just to get
customers.  There's so many other ways to put your business in the
spotlight.  You just have to get creative.

If you have an offline business, it's a good idea to have a website even if
you don't sell anything through that site.  For instance, on the bottom of
those business cards, put your website address.  When you give out
cards or leave them in restaurants etc. you are not always there in person
to discuss your business or to sell the benefits of your business to people.
Anyone interested can go to your website to learn more about you and
what you offer, increasing your chances of adding that person to your
customer list.If you don't know how to design a website, find someone
to do it for you.  It's well worth it. It doesn't have to be anything fancy,
just clean, professional looking, and easy to navigate.

If you give people a way to learn more about you without obligating
them to do business with you, you will surely get more customers.

If you have an online business, you could try marketing it offline as well.
The following is great for both types of business:  Get a professional
magnetic sign made and put it on your vehicle.  Let the world know you
own this business.  Make it easy to contact you.  Offer something special,
like a 10% discount if you mention my car sign when you call!

Don't forget about advertising your business in newspapers or magazines
designed for your niche. That's a great place to include your web
address and telephone number also.

Advertise your business on your local radio station, or write/call the
radio station and see if they are interested in doing an interview with
you.  Most people think that they wouldn't be interested in "my little
business", but you will be surprised.  These people are always looking
for fresh news and announcements.

Ask people for referrals.  Let everyone know you are expanding your
business.

With an online business there are various other ways to market your
business, such as announcements, leaving your signature on chat
forums, search engines, PPC, paid advertising, articles, viral marketing
etc.  So even if your business is offline, you can promote it online using
these methods also.

Being successful with any business, whether it is online or offline is
really
down to how you promote it and how much effort you are willing to put
in. Always be on the lookout for fresh ideas, and keep records of your
marketing efforts and the results you get.  If you work your business you
will continue to work and be successful, I'm sure of it!
