Life Tip: A Balanced Life
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
?© Dr. Dorene Lehavi, Ph.D.

Today, people as busy and stressed as professionals often do
not take the time to check in with themselves periodically
about where they are in their lives. They tend not to stop
and ask what is giving meaning and value to their lives.
Sometimes the idea of doing so is frightening because of
what they think they might find.

In my coaching practice, I do meet many professionals who
want to make some adjustments about the way they are living.
Most of the time the fear is unwarranted because even the
smallest adjustment is all that is needed to make a world of
difference. It's not a matter of giving up the life you
know. Unless it is a health issue, even when large
adjustments are indicated, it is not necessary to make major
life changes overnight.  Everything can be done gradually,
step by step.
& 41836/74264_balanceWheel.pdf at every
stage.  In fact, most people live much longer than previous
generations and therefore have opportunities to develop and
express many aspects of their personalities, talents and
interests.

Take 5 minutes to do the following exercise. I promise the
return on that investment (ROI) will be manifold. Simply
click on the link to download a 3 page exercise. After you
complete the exercise, then finish reading the article.

http://coachingforyournextlevel.com/articles/balanceWheel.pdf

Finished? Now that the picture of the balance in your life
at this moment in time is in front of you, ask yourself
which of those areas are priorities to improve and which are
fine as they are.

Make a plan and a commitment to take only one or two small
steps a week toward getting the balance you want.

Does it mean making a weekly date with your spouse and /or
your children? Might you be more careful in the clients you
accept? How about phasing out some of those who make you
miserable? Does it mean taking brief breaks throughout your
day to refresh yourself by focusing on something of interest
other than work? Perhaps a time management structure would
make a big difference. Would you like to do something
spiritual like taking a class or attending religious
services?  Does it mean developing a hobby or at least
subscribing to a magazine featuring an interest of yours?
What about music, listening to it more, learning or playing
an instrument? Does it mean planning what you will do in the
next stage of your life?

The journey of self discovery is fascinating because you are
so much more than you think you are. You can find more
exercises to guide you in your journey in my e-guidebook,
Stop Doing What You Hate.Start Doing What You Love
which is available on my website.

HomeBiz Tip: Is Your Computer Strong Enough For A work From
                     Home Internet Business
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
By Tom Worsley

If you are planning on doing business online with one of the
many work from home based businesses available on the
internet, then you are going to want to make sure your
computer is up to the task.

Although it is possible to get by with a Pentium 1, at
today's prices there is no reason to do so. Pentium 4
computers and AMD equivalent computers have dropped in price
enormously.

I have to admit, I am still using an Intel Celeron 766 Mh
computer but I upgraded the ram to 384 Mb and the hard drive
to 80 Gb. Also a high speed internet connection is a must. I
am connected to the internet from 8:00 Am to 2:00 Am (18
Hours) continuously every day. This means my security
including firewall must be set up properly and working. But
that's another article for another time.

Why do you need a powerful computer for your work from home
internet business? Well before I upgraded from my Pentium
MMX 233 Mh computer I was spending more time re booting from
freeze ups and cleaning my hard drive than I was actually
working at my internet work from home based business. Yes I
started out over 5 years ago using a Pentium MMX 233 with
only 160 Mb of RAM and a 3 Gb hard drive, proving that it is
possible to build a work from home internet business on an
old slow computer. But why would you. I upgraded to a used
Celeron 766 Mh computer with 256 Mb of RAM for $200
Canadian. And here in Canada you can buy a Pentium 4 or AMD
equivalent for just $400-$500.

I recommend the following main features when looking for
your work from home internet business computer.

1. Pentium 4 or AMD Equivalent.
2. 256 Mb of RAM minimum. 512 Mb is better.
3. 80 Gb hard drive or better
4. Ethernet for high speed internet connection.

Your video card is less important unless you plan to play
games on your work from home business computer. Cheaper
computers come with onboard video which is just fine for
business purposes.

Try to get at least a 17 inch monitor. Get an LCD monitor if
you can afford it. It will save you all kinds of desk space
giving you more room to work.

These are my recommendations for your work from home
internet business computer based on my past experiences with
my own work from home internet business. They are just
guidelines only. In fact you could spend thousands of
dollars more than what I have suggested here. Wouldn't we
all love to have an AMD 64 computer with 2 Gb RAM, dual 200
Gb raided hard drives and a 21 inch LCD monitor!

Health Tip: Free Enterprise And Public Health: The Battle Rages On
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
by Dr. Earl Mindell

Processed food makers are fighting to un-tarnish their image in
the eyes of American consumers. The evidence that their products
are a major cause of chronic disease and obesity is becoming
incontrovertible. As Americans try to improve their diets,
companies that make junk food and soda continually look for ways
to make consumers think that their products are perfectly good
parts of a healthy diet. Their bargaining power with the U.S.
Government sometimes enables them to buy better press-press that
sounds trustworthy, but that is based on less-than-sound science.

USDA calls frozen French fries "fresh veggies." The U.S.
Department of Agriculture has added frozen French fries to the
list of fresh vegetables Americans can include in their
"five-a-day." The story in the LA Times reports that "the USDA
quietly changed the regulations last year at the behest of the
French fry industry, which has spent decades pushing for a
revision to the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act."

Sure, the French fry industry has had a double-whammy lately;
there was the whole issue of France saying no to the war in Iraq,
inspiring the new moniker "Freedom fries," and then the discovery
that the trans-fats in fries are the stuff of an artery's worst
nightmare. Still, anyone can see that it's totally absurd to say
that a starch-coated, deep-fried, frozen bit of potato is
anything close to fresh.

The soda industry: deny, deny, deny. According to a study led by
Barry Popkin, professor of nutrition at the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill, the high-fructose corn syrup used to
sweeten sodas supplies an average of 132 calories per day to
Americans above the age of two. Dr. Popkin maintains that when
wequaff a fructose-sweetened drink, we take in lots of extra
calories-but those calories don't trigger the parts of our brains
that tell us we're satiated. So we can guzzle down hundreds of
excess calories in the form of sodas without putting a dent in
our intake of other foods.

To rescue the precious reputation of the
high-fructose-corn-syrup-sweetened beverage comes Stephanie
Childs, a representative of a trade group called Grocery
Manufacturers of America (GMA). This group does its best to
deflect bad press from its members, which include Coca-Cola
Company and PepsiCo. Industry groups like the GMA are
concerned that the government is going to act to limit the sales
of their products in schools, and that they will launch educational
campaigns designed to show consumers that they're far better
off choosing something else to drink. In an article in USA Today,
she is quoted as saying that researchers like Dr. Popkin "give
the impression that high-fructose corn syrup is the secret reason
Americans are all obese, and that is patently false."

Of course there's more to it than soda. This is such an
incredible oversimplification of diligently performed,
peer-reviewed studies by some of the nation's most highly
esteemed scientists. These scientists have no vested interest in
demonizing soft drinks. To the contrary-any researcher who could
show that soft drinks don't cause obesity would most likely be
the recipient of a good deal more than gratitude from that
industry. It's so obvious which party has the vested interest.
The best way to teach these folks a lesson is to avoid their
products like the plague. Stick with water, tea, and the
occasional fruit juice-sweetened spritzer.

Turning 21, A boy from Duluth, Minnesota, had heard stories
of an amazing family tradition. It seem that on their 21st
birthdays his father, grandfather and great grandfather had
all been able to walk across the lake to the boat club for
their first l*gal drink.

So when his 21st came around, he and his pal Sven went
to the end of the boat dock. Lars stepped off the dock
and nearly drowned. Sven managed to pull him to safety.

Furious and confused, Lars went to see his grandmother.
"Grandma," he asked, "it's my 21st birthday, so why can't
I walk across the lake like my father, his father, and his
father before him?"

Granny looked into Lars' eyes and said, "Because your father,
grandfather and great-grandfather were born
in January. You were born in July.

A Sunday School teacher asked her pupils,
"Now, children, do you all say your prayers at night?"
Little Johnny's hand shot up, " Miss, My mommy says my prayers."
"Oh, I see," said the teacher, "and what does your mommy say?"
My mommy says, "THANK GOD HE'S IN BED!"

The cop got out of his car and the kid, that was stopped for
speeding, rolled down his window.
"I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.
The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on
his way without a ticket.
