Hi from the Maldives! Managed to blag some time off before we start gigging in earnest again, starting next Friday (Sept 1st) at the Plough in Walthamstow. By then I'll be back, fully refreshed, with some new ideas... Watch this space! Sun, sand and sea, a thousand ‘Robinson Crusoe’ islands, massive lagoons with different depths and infinite shades of blue and turquoise, dazzling underwater coral gardens - it's great here! The natives are friendly and the local music's different, but great too. It seems to consist mostly of drums and other percussion instruments - you can really hear the African influence. As the rhythm picks up the dancing starts, with everyone joining in. Ask me nicely and I'll show you how at the next gig... I've picked up a few words of Dhivehi, mainly chat up lines and profanities to be honest, but I may work a word or two into the new song I'll be writing once I'm back. And that's all for now. I've got a date with a snorkel and a coral reef - the profusion of psychedelic colours and the abundance and variety of life underwater has to be seen to be believed!
