All of Essex's council operated music venues are under threat following the complete ban on alcohol by the Head of Youth Services at Essex County Council. Whilst the venues (including the Hermit in Brentwood and The Square in Harlow) have enjoyed decades of trouble free entertainment for all ages with the licenced bar in place, they are housed within facilities that are under the control of the Youth Services Department and a change in the head of that department has lead to new regulations for the venues. Audiences are diminishing due to the ban. Before long the venues will be considered unsustainable financially and will be closed. Irreplaceable local resources and venues which form part of our cultural history will be lost forever. Local councillors and police are in favour of the venue being licenced as it's somewhere for young adults to go - as the alcohol is served by youth workers, it's probably the only bar in town that can guarantee no underage drinkers. I've been fighting alongside local councillors to get the decision reversed, but no appeal or amount of evidence is making any difference. We are still looking at other avenues for appeal but we've been told a petition is the only thing likely to make a difference. We need you! Please register your support for a reversal of this decision by adding your name here http://jackcarr.co.uk/petition/index.php and informing as many people as you can. Thank you! See you soon, Love, Ck xx |
