Larry has shared a menu that is filled with super recipes that seem to be perfect for a birthday party as suggested. We??ve got some funnies you??ve asked me to share, too. All in all, we??ll have some fun with this issue. Monthly Theme: "Our Daily Bread" A to Z Recipes continues with its popular Theme Issues. We will share theme recipes and post them on the first Sunday of each month. Send your recipes no later than the last Friday of each month to have them posted in the next monthly theme issue. You may send in as many recipes in each email as your little heart desires. If the number of recipes exceeds those needed in the issue, the publisher will post as many from every submitter as possible and save the remaining recipes for regular, daily issues. The rules for recipe submissions for the monthly theme issues are the same as ALL recipes submitted for posting. The rules are as follows: As a service to your fellow readers, please send only recipes that are in a form that others could easily copy and save for their own use. Recipes that would require a lot of editing or cleaning up or use non-standard measurements should not be submitted. This would include recipes with traces from forwarding, those in ALL caps (or NO caps), and recipes that do not contain the standards for recipes (title, ingredient list, and instructions). Recipes without a name/location of sender will NOT be posted. A to Z Recipes protects the privacy of its readers and does NOT publish email addresses. There will be no exceptions. Send recipes you'd like to share to: a2zrecipes@fastmail.fm (Use the theme name as subject.) Our Current Monthly Theme: "Our Daily Bread" Yes, the aroma of fresh bread baking in the oven cannot be duplicated. You might start looking through those recipe files for your favorite bread recipes. We've done the quick bread recipes before but we can always use more, so you will be able to include any leavening you choose. Please share with our readers the recipes you enjoy when you want to serve freshly baked bread. This will be an exciting theme when we can collect and share favorites such as white bread, perhaps a whole wheat or cheese bread; how about some foccacia, or bruschetta? Don't forget to include the special date, banana and other fruit varieties. Try sharing some of those with us, as well as any you feel others would enjoy collecting and preparing. Look through those recipe files, cookbooks and clippings for some great recipes to submit to November's Theme Issue. The deadline for next month's theme issue is Friday, October 31st. Theme recipes must have subject: "Our Daily Bread" and will be posted on Sunday, November 2nd. Did you vote? http://www.cumuli.com/ezines/ra20729.rate Thanks! Have trouble voting? When things in your life seem almost to much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar......and the beer. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes." The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions--things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. "The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else?? the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children (grandchildren!). Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. "Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers." Here are some suggestions that I found on the ???net. Eyeball Cookies You can make these anytime, not just for Halloween. Ingredients: 1/2 C. butter 1 1/2 C. peanut butter 1 lb. powdered sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 12 oz. white chocolate almond bark Preparation: Cream together the first four ingredients. Roll into 1 inch balls. Place balls on waxed paper for 30 minutes, and refrigerate. When the balls are cool melt, the chocolate in the microwave. Separate a small amount of the melted chocolate out, and color with either black or blue food coloring. Partially dip ball into melted white chocolate, let harden, and then dip into the colored chocolate. You may need to reheat the chocolate until all balls are done. Jack O' Lantern Cake This is a fun way to be creative with your baking. Ingredients: 2 Pkg. Yellow Cake Mix Candy Corn Black or Brown Decorating Icing 1 Ice Cream Cone Yellow Food Color Red Food Color Green Food Color Large Cake Plate 2 Bundt Cake Pan 3 Containers Prepared Frosting (white) Preparation: Prepare cakes as directed and add a little red and yellow food color to tint orange. Bake as directed in the two bundt cake pans. Cool cakes and remove from pans. Mix yellow and red food colors with 2 1/2 containers of frosting to the desired orange shade. Mix green food color into the 1/2 container of white frosting to the right shade of green for the stem. When cakes have been cooled and removed from pan place one on cake plate. Trim cake, frost in-between layers. Frost cake, frost ice cream cone with green frosting and carefully place on top of Jack O Lantern. With a medium frosting tip draw a smile and eyes on side of cake for face. Carefully place candy corn for teeth and wait for the party to start. Notes: You will place the first bundt cake "upside down" or with the flat surface UP on serving dish, frost, then place the second on top with flat surface on the frosted cake. Continue with frosting and decorating. Kitty Litter Cake Serving Size: 24 This is a fun cake! It might look gross, but it does taste good! A friend of mine, Rachael, prepared this one year and it was a very gross sight! And the kids ate it up (as soon as they determined she hadn't accidentally left Fluffy's litter box on the side serving table, lol). Ingredients: 1 (18 oz.) box spice or German chocolate cake mix 1 (18 oz.) box white cake mix 1 pkg. white sandwich cookies 1 large box vanilla instant pudding mix 12 small tootsie rolls 1 litter box (preferably a NEW one!) 1 plastic scoop green food coloring Preparation: Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans). Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. You probably won't need all of the pudding, mix with the cake and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine. Put mixture into clean litter box. Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter. Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, three at a time in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around. Serve with a new pooper scooper. Notes: For a "very" realistic effect, place the last few Tootsie Rolls (melted) along the side of the container like kitty "oops". It will definitely make for some "interesting" looks, lol. Wormy Head Sandwiches These are fun to make, and even more fun to eat. Ingredients: 6 - 8 Small Hamburger Buns 16 oz Pkg. Sliced Bologna Green Stuffed Olives Black Olives Tooth Picks Leaf Lettuce Mayonnaise or Mustard (optional) Preparation: Unwrap bologna and slice into thin strips. Place in bowl or plate and toss meat so the bologna will resemble a pile of worms. Place sandwich spread on bottom half of bun. Place a piece of lettuce on bottom half of bun. Pile bologna worms on lettuce. Place top half of bun on sandwich. With a tooth pick place the green olives for eyes and the black olive makes a cute nose. With pickles, fresh vegetable slices and a few of the kids?? favorite chips this makes for an exciting and memorable meal. Note: Leave some of the bologna hanging outside of the sandwiches to really achieve the desired "gross-ness". Black Widow Dip This is easy to put together, and tastes wonderful. Ingredients: 16 oz Can Refried Beans 1 tsp. Chili Powder 1 tsp. Taco Seasoning 1/4 C. Water 12 - 16 oz Prepared Guacamole 1/4 - 1/3 C. Salsa (to taste) 1/4 - 1/2 Sour Cream Tortilla Chips Pie Pan Plastic Spiders Preparation: Place refried beans, chili powder, taco seasoning, and water in small sauce pan. Place on stove at medium low temperature and heat through. While stirring constantly let simmer until water is observed and flavors have blended, 4 - 6 minutes. Remove from stove and cool. Mix prepared guacamole with salsa. Place cooled beans in bottom of pie pan, carefully spoon guacamole on top of beans. In a pastry bag or plastic bag draw the black widows cobweb. Finally place the spider or more spiders if you wish on top of the spiders web. This simple dip and you favorite chips this snack will be very eye catching and make a nice table presentation. The father said, "Stay here and be very QUIET. I'll be across the field." A few minutes later, the father heard a blood curdling scream and ran back to his son. "What's wrong?" the father asked. "I told you to be quiet." The son answered, "Look, I was quiet when the snake slithered across my feet.. When the bear breathed down my neck, I didn't move a muscle. When the skunk climbed over my shoulder, I closed my eyes. And I held my breath when the wasp stung me. I didn't cough when I swallowed the gnat. Those are for college boys," the dad answers, "TWO for Friday, TWO for Saturday, and TWO for Sunday." "WOW!" exclaimed the boy, "then who uses THESE?" he asks, picking up a 12 pack.
