Another fluff feature unveiled in Windows Vista - Video Tip
|
|
View the Video Here
Windows Vista still doesn't seem to be gaining any momentum in the fans department
after 10 months. Today, I discovered this new feature (see the 53
second video below) that Microsoft took 7 years and billions of dollars
to develop and implement in Vista. Once again, instead of Wow, I'm asking, "Why?"

You
know what Black Friday is don't you? It's the day after Thanksgiving
when many stores move out of the red and into the black.
What you may not know is that Black Friday also takes place online.
Websites such as tgiBlackFriday.com keep track of the Black Friday deals and leak the ads before they are published.
Expect great deals from online retailers such as Amazon.com,
Overstock.com, and all of the other big sites for Black Friday deals.
If you have a favorite shopping site, online or off, make sure to visit
their website before Black Friday. Many stores are sending out secret
deals to email subscribers.

Best Buy to offer $230 laptop on Black Friday
No one is better at getting 700 people to
stand in line at 4a.m. for 20 items than Best Buy. This year Best Buy
will be pulling it off by offering a $230 laptop.
The specs are nothing to brag about, but for $230, you could turn it into a screamin' Ubuntu machine.
Amazon Kindle hits the market
Amazon
released the Amazon Kindle digital book this week. For about the same
price as 35 good hard backs, you can own an Amazon Kindle digital book.
Then you can fill it up with books for $10 each.
The Kindle allows you to download books "for free" at $10 each, but if
you want to use the Kindle to read online news and information that is
otherwise free from a computer, you will be charged for the air time
you use.

Thanksgiving
is at time to reflect on all that you are thankful for, this
Thanksgiving take a look around and notice all of the technology items
that make your life better. I am sure on Thanksgiving Day alone you
will see dozens of examples.
I am thankful for the electric knife that helps us carve the Turkey safely.
I am thankful for the TV that lets us watch football games in HD.
I am thankful for the KitchenAid mixer that helps us quickly blend, mix and kneed.
I am thankful for the cell phone that lets us call relatives and see why they are running late.
I am thankful for iPods that keep the teens busy so they don't bother us in the kitchen while dinner is getting ready.
I am thankful for XBox, PS3, and Gameboy that entertain the younger kids.
I am thankful for digital cameras and camcorders that allows us to capture the special day in pictures.
I am thankful for DVDs that allow the entire family to watch a movie late in the afternoon as we all digest.
I am thankful for Google Maps that help us plan out our Black Friday shopping trip.
I am thankful for Pricegrabber and Shopzilla that allow us to check and see if the Black Friday specials are really a good buy.
I am thankful for GPS that helps us navigate strange neighborhoods while visiting relatives.
I am thankful for PVR technology that allows us to rewind and pause live TV so a moment of the game isn't missed.
Most of all I am thankful to live in a country where we must strain to imagine a day without such luxuries. |

Hello Rick,
Bresnan
Internet recently sent me a message saying I could download their new
security suite from Computer Associates. Should I do it?
Janet
----------------
Hello Janet,
Computer
Associates is a good company, but unfortunately, I'm not impressed with
any pre-packaged security suites. They tend to be too large and slow
computers down way too much while not providing complete security
coverage. As of today, I recommend the Castellini on Computers Hybrid Security Suite:
1. AVG Anti-virus
2. Windows Defender
3. A router for your high speed connection
4. Windows Firewall
5. Monthly updates and scans with SypBot Search and Destroy and/or Super AntiSpyware
6. Cloudmark Desktop anti-spam
7. MOST IMPORTANT: ONLY browse the Internet with Mozilla Firefox
Links to all of these programs can be found in our Links and Resources section of the site. Good luck.
