Zoho Sheet - Video Tip
Disappearing Desktop icons - Video Tip
How to download AVG Free - Video Tip

Last week, I gave you a short video tour of Zoho.com's Writer word processing application. This week the tour continues with the Sheet program (spreadsheet) from Zoho. Like the word processor program, Sheet offers all of the features that 90% of spreadsheet users need or use, including:

  • Multiple sheets (workbooks)
  • Charting
  • Advanced calculations
  • Auto formatting
  • Link external data
  • Online collaboration
  • and much more.

Watch the short video below to see how far online applications from Zoho.com can take you.

Zoho Sheet - Video Tip

All your icons are gone off of your desktop and you can't bring them back.

It's an easy fix:

1. Right-click on your desktop
2. Click Arrange Icons By (or something similar depending on your version of Windows)
3. Click Show Desktop Icons

Wait a few seconds and all of your icons will come back. If they don't you should get a Mac or Ubuntu computer.

Dude! Where's my icons? What to do when all your desktop icons disappear

Computer News...and comment

Microsoft setting sites on another technology company?

Reports surfaced this week that indicated that Microsoft was considering a takeover/buyout of Logitech. Logitech manufacturers mice, keyboards, web cams and other peripherals for computers. The president of Microsoft stated that a take over would be fruitless and that Logitech would not be interested.

Mozilla Firefox Releases 4th Beta version of 3.0

After nearly two years in development, Mozilla Firefox (our favorite web browser) seems poised to release version 3.0 very soon. This week, they released their 4th beta version of the product. Beta versions are considered stable, but not finalized versions of products that are released to users who want to help identify and cleanup remaining glitches/bugs in the software prior to final release.

Version 3.0 of Firefox promises to be faster and safer than the current 2.0 version which is still the best out there.

WARNING: Smoking can be hazardous to your Wii

If you don't care about your lungs, please have mercy on your Nintendo Wii game console. The web was abuzz this week about glitches with Nintendo's Wii and some games...particularly the newly release Super Smash Brothers. After some investigation, it appears that the only consoles having trouble resided in homes with smokers. The pollution given off from cigarettes would come to rest on the Wii's laser lens that reads the game disks.

In what we think is a total cop out, Nintendo will clean the filthy machines for free for customers with the problem.

WalMart pulling the wildly successful $199 Linux PC's from stores

Although the popular PC will still be available on WalMart's web site, WalMart announced that they will not be carried on store shelves any longer. A call to WalMart's managers yielded no answers . The good news is that they are hot sellers...the bad news is that WalMart (we think) has yielded to the Microsoft machine to avoid competition with their less than quick selling Vista computers.

Email of the week

Hello,

Went to use my floppy drive this afternoon, it's the 3 1/2" disks. The drive is gone from 'My Computer'.  How does that happen and how do I get it back ?

Thank you for any ideas !

Christy

----------------

Hello Christy,

First, why are you still using floppy disks?

Your floppy could disappear from the My Computer window for a couple of reasons. First, it might actually be physically broken and inaccessible.

Second, it could be that Windows just lost track of it. To determine if this is the case, try this:
  1. RIGHT Click the My Computer icon
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Hardware tab
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Click the "+" next to to Disk Drives or Floppy disks
  6. If your floppy disk drive is listed there, click it ONE time
  7. Click the Remove or uninstall button from the toolbar
  8. Click Yes
  9. Close the Device Manager window
  10. Shut your computer completely off.
  11. Turn it back and check My Computer again

If it did NOT come back, then it needs to be replaced or just start using USB flash drives instead.

Good luck.

Rick
