Planters Holiday Chocolate Nut Squares

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups flour
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 3/4 cups Planters Pecans or Walnuts, chopped
1 cup flaked coconut
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

Beat 1/2 cup butter or margarine & 1/4 cup of the sugar until creamy. Blend in flour. Press on bottom of an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 18 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Heat 1/2 cup of the sugar, 1/4 cup butter or margarine & heavy cream in saucepan, stirring until spread melts & mixture is blended. Stir in pecans; set aside. Sprinkle coconut & chocolate over crust. Top with pecan mixture. Bake for 20 minutes more or until golden. Cool; cut into squares.

Chocolate River Bars

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
11/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Mix, butter, brown sugar & sugar & beat till fluffy. Add egg & extract & beat well. Stir together flour, soda & salt. Mix into butter mixture beating well. Spread into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top of batter. Place in oven at 350 degrees F for 2 minutes just till chocolate softens.
With a table knife, swirl the melted chocolate pieces into the batter. Return the pan to the oven & bake 12 to 15 minutes more till golden. Cool. Cut into 32 bars.
