-=*=-A great natural substitute for plain ole sugar is *honey*
-=*=-Almost any recipe can be made sugar *free* if you're creative.
-=*=-Instead of sugar, you can use a sugar substitute of equal value.
HOWEVER, you have to remember to reduce the amount of liquid in the recipe, because you use so much less "EQUAL" than you would "SUGAR".
-=*=-Apple sauce or any mashed fruit of your choice can be used in place of sugar in many a recipe.
-=*=-Instead of Chocolate you can use carob, which is very healthy &
sugar free* as well, or use cocoa & add your desired fruit.
-=*=-When making a substitution, make note of the liquid texture of
your replacement to make sure your fruit etc. equals in liquid form,
what the recipe calls for as the sweetener.

*-=*=-* Dobosh Torte *-=*=-*


Dobosh Torte
 
1 frozen pound cake
1 small carton sour cream
1 6 oz. package chocolate chips
1 tsp. instant coffee, dried
1/2 tsp. - 1 tsp. vanilla
 
Slice cake lengthwise into 4-6 slices, a not difficult task if the cake is frozen. Melt chocolate over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, coffee, and vanilla. Frost cake between layers,
top and sides.

*For family sized cake, double all ingredients. Refrigerate. Keeps forever.
 
This is very similiar to the one I remember.  I still think I used Cool Whip instead of the sour cream but I will make it both ways.  The Cool Whip one allowed me to freeze the cake and it was always ready for company.  It is a cake that is not really sweet and is wonderful with coffee. Thank you for your help in my search.

Christmas Fudge

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/8 tsp salt
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup red candied cherries, chopped
1/2 cup green candied cherries, chopped
 

Spray an 8x8" baking dish with cooking spray. In a large saucepan,
bring the sugar, butter, cream and salt to a boil over medium heat,
stirring frequently. Let boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and slowly add the powdered sugar and vanilla,
stirring until smooth and well combined. Stir in the cherries until
evenly distributed. Spoon into baking dish and chill for 1 hour or
until firm. Cut into squares. Store in an airtight container.
