Melt butter & chocolate together in a bowl over barely simmering water. In a separate bowl, using an electric mixer, beat eggs & sugar until light, fluffy & pale in colour. Incorporate melted butter & chocolate into the egg & sugar mixture. Add flour, pecans & cherries & mix well. Butter one 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pan, pour mixture into pan & bake for 55-60 minutes or until set. Cool completely on wire rack. Make at least one day ahead, slice cold & place on baking sheet & warm in oven at 300° F (150° C) for 10-15 minutes. Grease two cookie sheets. In a large bowl, stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder & baking soda. In another bowl, with an electric mixer, beat together sugar, mayonnaise, eggs & vanilla for 2-3 minutes until well mixed & creamy. Add the mayonnaise mixture to the flour mixture, stirring just until the flour is incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chunks & chopped nuts. Drop batter by heaping teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheets, at least 2 inchesapart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cookies have puffed up & are dry on top but rich, moist & gooey on the inside.
