| Mapping
the genre
We
hope you all had a good Xmas and New Year break. Let’s
hope we can make great inroads in mapping the genre in the forthcoming
year.
What
does that mean — mapping the genre? It means collecting
written work on, about and in the genre, whether it is a personal
opinion, an essay, a story, a poem or a review. It includes
promoting people and events, linking to the many flavours of
the genre wherever they may be.
The
result is a virtual map that needs to be read in many dimensions.
We do not expect everything to be housed in the specusphere,
nor do we want it, the more variety of websites, publishers,
blogs, editors etc, the better. We would simply like to be able
to link to them all and find ways in which we can better manage
our resources to promote the genre — something which benefits
us all.
The
Specusphere is here for anyone in the genre to use
as a tool to help market or promote themselves or their business.
By opening the website to others we achieve two things:
-
We
maximise our limited resources (we have jobs and family
commitments)
-
The
speculative community has the opportunity to self-organise.
The
opportunity is there to be taken.

to forge ties with students of the Editing (Publishing) program.
Students are being offered a chance to experience real situations
as an editor of an on-line magazine.
Our
friends at AHWA advise that they now have a Calendar of Horror
on the AHWA site now (http://my.calendars.net/australianhorror)
