June08, 2005 - Upcoming Circus Demo in Michigan >> |
|
PLEASE come out this weekend to protest the Garden Brothers circus. As many of you know, sadly the city's circus bylaw was overturned earlier this year in court. The animals NEED your voice more than ever. If Windsor City Council gets enough pressure this year, next year they may decide to NOT permit animal acts on city property. To do this though, it is going to take YOUR voice!!! Circus protest: Where: Windsor Arena (located at 572 McDougall Street on the corner of McDougall and Wyandotte and 1 block south of the casino) Dates and Meeting Times: Sat, May 28 - 2:30 pm & 6:45 pm Sun, May 29 - 12 noon & 4:00 pm Please come to all or any of these protests!!!! Note: We need as many people as possible for Sat, May 28 at 2:30 pm because the media will be invited then and we need to show them there is STRONG opposition to this event! Signs will be provided. You are also welcome and encouraged to bring your own. Sample slogans for your sign could include "Enter at your own Risk" or "Acrobats NOT Animal Acts". If you can't make the protest (and even if you can) contact city council and let them know how you feel about animal acts. Windsor City Council 350 City Hall Square West P.O. Box 1607 Windsor, Ontario N9A 6S1 email Windsor city councillors: Dave Brister: dbrister@city.windsor.on.ca Joyce Zuk: jzuk@city.windsor.on.ca Ron Jones: rjones@city.windsor.on.ca Caroline Postma: cpostma@city.windsor.on.ca Alan Halberstadt: ahalberstadt@city.windsor.on.ca Fulvio Valentinis: fvalentinis@city.windsor.on.ca David Cassivi: dcassivi@city.windsor.on.ca Ken Lewenza Jr: klewenza@city.windsor.on.ca Jo-anne Gignac: joagignac@city.windsor.on.ca Tom Wilson: twilson@city.windsor.on.ca Mayor Eddie Francis: mayoro@city.windsor.on.ca Ideas to mention: (keep in mind council is most effected and motivated by public safety, not so much animal welfare) -circuses are unsafe, wild animals are unpredicatable, attacks and escapes happen, unsafe to have wild animals in the downtown core -traffic, noise, lights, bars, restaurants and crowds, mixed with elephants and tigers is an accident waiting to happen -circus animals have no quality of life, carted around in trailers where they leave, eat, urinate and deficate -the detroit zoo recently closed their elephant exhibit because zoo director, Ron Kagen, said the zoo cannot meet their needs. Given this information how could a circus ever met the needs of elephants? -there is no way to humanely travel with and train a 16,000 pound animal -the animals are not important to the circus, it is the performance of the animal Thank you so very much! -Christina chrissy_online@yahoo.com Please contact me if you would like more information, or help with directions |
