Centre, Kings Cross on Sunday 4 March 2007. Linton Kwesi Johnson will
give a rare London performance with the incomparable Dennis Bovell Dub
Band in a memorial tribute concert for John La Rose, the late elder
statesman of black Britain. Also performing from the LKJ Records stable
are award-winning poet Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze and veteran reggae crooner
Winston Francis.
They will share the stage with,
from the USA, legendary jazz pianist and composer Randy Weston accompanied
by T K Blue, and world renowned poet of blues and jazz, Jayne Cortez,
accompanied by Firespitters’ drummer, Denardo Coleman.
Classical and experimental
composers Shirley Thompson (violinist) and Deirdre Pascall (pianist/
vocalist) will give solo renditions, as well as innovative flautist
Keith Waithe. Pamberi steel pan players from Trinidad’s leading orchestra
and up and coming hip-hop artist Faro complete an impressive line-up.
These artists were inspired
and touched by John La Rose, his life’s work and his vision of change.
