"Ask, and you will receive,"
"Ask
and ye shall receive." Those words have been repeated and
dissected so much though the ages. And yet people still have problems
with those five simple words. But are they simple?
What if we broke the sentence down into the individual words?
Ask,
It
seems a simple word. Yet the action associated with it seems
very difficult for some people. Granted there are people who
only ask. They take and take without giving anything back.
So for them the simple act of asking is just that simple.
Others,
however, find the action of asking difficult. Some people
don't ask because they don't feel worthy. Others don't even
think about asking for themselves. So is the word 'ask'
really that simple?
and
This
word is a conjunction, or a word that connects two thoughts or things
together. In this instance it is connecting the act of
asking with the act of receiving. Not an easy job for the
word considering what we have already learned about the word 'ask'.
'And' as a simple word? Perhaps not.
you
Approaching
the word 'you' is not all that easy either. (I have taken the authors
privilege of substituting the word 'you' for the word 'ye'.)
Many people shy away from using the word you. This
word starts many sentences which are perceived as having negative
rather than positive connotations. There are people who
inflict pain on others by using the word 'you'. And still
others try not to use the word because they have no idea who 'you' is.
They don't understand themselves as 'you' let alone anyone
else as 'you'. Again, a simple yet not quite so simple word?
shall
'Shall' is a word that means 'will'. You will receive.
These two words are considered absolute words. This
means they are not wishy-washy. The words denote positive,
affirmative action. In today's society this type of word is
difficult to find outside of limited circles. What do I mean
by that?
There
are groups of people who choose specific words for their positive and
affirmative speech. The amount of people in these groups are
rapidly growing and the groups themselves are spreading worldwide.
They use these types of words to attraact good things to them
and to make their lives better. Perhaps you are one of these
people or belong to one of these groups. So I guess the word
'shall' is not as simple as it seems either.
receive,
Last
but not least is the word 'receive'. This can be an elusive
word. Or should I say the act this word represents can be
elusive. As the word 'ask', this word, 'receive', has two
groups of people: those who receive all they can get; and
those who don't think about receiving. You have the gimmee's
and then you have those who are embarrassed to receive. In
the middle are those who feel they deserve to receive because of what
they have done. So the word 'receive' appears not to be as
simple as originally thought.
No
wonder it is so difficult for people to wrap their minds around a
concept as simple as 'ask, and you shall receive,....' If the
words are complex, how can the action be so simple? How can
the results be so easy?
There
is a saying that "we are our own worst enemy.'" In the case
of 'ask, and you shall receive,' this is true. We
sometimes don't ask because we don't think it is possible. Or
we do ask thinking it is impossible, and so it becomes impossible or
doesn't happen.
We
have taken five words and made them difficult. We have then
put them in a sentence we perceive as difficult. How then can
we see the simplicity of the words and acts to attain something
positive? Two negatives do not make a positive!
Those five words, 'ask, and you shall receive,' are truly
simple words. The acts associated with them are simple acts.
In our individual perceptions we have made them something
they are not: difficult.
When
you ask, ask from love. Don't ask from need or desire.
Ask because it is for your higher good or for what is best
for you or a particular situation. Ego gets in the way
sometimes. We then receive with the idea of deserving it, of
needing it, and of how much we can get. Receive with thoughts
of love. What you truly deserve and need will become yours.
