September 2006 Beatles FREE Online Giveaway This month we are giving away THREE copies of the new book "The Gospel According to The Beatles" by Steve Turner. Visit http://www.daytrippin.com/Beatles_Giveaway.htm to enter! -------- Beatles News: Pattie Boyd to write autobiography (From contactmusic.com) ERIC CLAPTON and George Harrison's ex-wife PATTI BOYD signed a lucrative $1.7 million book deal for her memoirs. The 1960's style icon married Clapton in 1979 after her relationship with former BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON broke down, and inspired his classic hit LAYLA. Now her amazing life story will be traced with the help of British royal PRINCE CHARLES' biographer PENNY JUNIOR, as part of a deal with publishers Hodder Headline. Eric Clapton announced his own book deal last autumn. It was Pattie's relationship with Clapton that was to wreck her marriage to George. She and Harrison met the guitarist, then with Sixties supergroup Cream, at a party in Chelsea in November 1968. The two men became immediate best friends, but Clapton, who was living with his teenage girlfriend Alice Ormsby-Gore, the daughter of Lord Harlech, fell passionately for the lovely Pattie. When she rejected his entreaties for her to leave Harrison for him, he wrote the tortured love song Layla for her. in 1974 she left George and moved in with Clapton. Astonishingly, the two men remained great friends. But Clapton's drinking and drug taking and constant philandering was soon taking its toll on his relationship with Pattie. But it was Pattie's inability to have children that proved the death knell for their marriage. Like Harrison before him, Clapton was keen to start a family, but despite fertility treatment she suffered a series of miscarriages. The couple eventually divorced in 1988. Pattie has consistently refused big money offers to tell her story about her relationships with the two rock stars, and remained on good terms with George until his death from cancer in 2001. Likewise, she stayed in touch with Clapton after their divorce and even attended the funeral of Conor in 1991. Today, she makes a living from photography and currently has an exhibition in London of her shots of her showbusiness friends. She has never remarried and lives alone with her cat following her split last year from long-term lover Rod Weston, a property developer. A friend explains: "Pattie always said that she would never write her book despite hundreds of offers and she always said she was very keen to protect George's memory. "But quite honestly she was very annoyed when she heard that Eric had decided to write his own book. Her publishers will, of course, love the fact that both their books, with their different recollections of the same events, will be coming out at the same time." ----------ADVERTISEMENT----------------------------------- http://www.allbeatlesstore.com We are an all Canadian company that sells and ships worldwide. Presented by British director James Veitch, this play is largely based on an unpublished interview with John and Yoko, granted hours before he was tragically murdered on December 8, 1980. This dialogue-driven story will make audiences feel like a fly on a wall inside the Lennon‚s quarters in the Dakota on that fateful day. The Lennons talk openly about everything from new album Double Fantasy, John's new role as househusband and father, feminism, and politics. Many of his statements have eerie significance to today‚s world, several things never before heard. A thirty-minute excerpt of the show will debut at Seattle's Bumbershoot 2006 on September 2nd. Accompanying (Just Like) Starting Over was the second John Lennon Jam benefit concert, held at Seattle Public Theater on Friday, September 1, 2006 for two encore performances. The first John Lennon Jam took place at the Crocodile Cafe to a full house on the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death on December 8, 2005. The show features a specially assembled "Jam" band of Seattle rock veterans fronted by Rick Lovrovich (Beatniks) to perform John Lennon's classic Beatles tunes and solo music. Other members include Jakael Tristram (Hit Explosion), Jon Bolton (Beatniks, Herding Cats) Mike Mattenly (Herding Cats), and Johnny Jones. There was a special guest performance by Alan White, legendary drummer for the mega-band Yes and Lennon‚s renowned Imagine album. Proceeds will benefit SPT's production of the stage play (Just Like) Starting Over. For more information, go to http://www.myspace.com/johnlennonjam. The Wiki allows fans to ‘get under the skin’ of The Beatles and learn more about the Liverpool they grew up in. The Beatles Story are currently developing the site to cover The Beatles’ lives from 1957-1963. Most recently, the Beatles Story Wiki has gained the approval of Joe Flannery, the Beatles first bookings manager who has been assisting with the project. “Joe has been a delight to work with,” according to Marketing Manager, Janine Ross. “His personal recollections of his time with The Beatles are priceless and we now have the opportunity to share his fascinating tales with fans worldwide. I like to think of the Beatles Story Wiki as more of a ‘virtual museum’ – enlightening and educating fans old and new.” Andy Abram from New Mind, the internet consultancy behind the programming comments, "This is an exciting phase in the development of the Beatles Story web site. The marketing team at the attraction were keen to adopt the latest technologies such as Wiki, both to keep the site at the forefront of Internet technology and more importantly, to provide a very useful and interesting feature for users. We are looking forward to seeing the results." The Beatles Story Wiki is now open to submissions from the general public. “It is essential Beatles fans across the world help us build the encyclopaedia so the legacy of The Beatles can be shared for years to come,” said Janine.
