GEORGE MARTIN INDUCTED INTO THE UK MUSIC HALL OF FAME

The UK Music Hall of Fame was founded in 2004 to give suitable honour to musicians for their lifetime of achievement in the music industry, and as of November 2006, George Martin has joined the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Queen along with other elite few. On his induction Sir George said:

'I think the reason I am here today is I have been a very lucky man and I have worked with the greatest people in show business, performers and writers. It rubs off working with people like that, it makes all the difference in the world.'

Genesis Publications is releasing a new limited edition book by George Martin called "Summer of Love - The Making of Sgt. Pepper" with only 2,000 copies being sold. Celebrating 40 years since the Beatles began work on the Sgt. Pepper's album, each copy will be signed by Sir George Martin and will be available by the end of January 2007.

Yoko calls for a day of worldwide healing on December 8.

In a full-page advertisement appearing November 26, 2006 in The New York Times, Yoko Ono urged readers to mark the anniversary of John Lennon's death by apologizing to those who have suffered due to violence and war.

"Every year, let's make December 8th the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable," writes Yoko.

In the open letter, Ono urges readers to take responsibility for failing to intervene on behalf of victims around the world.

"Know that the physical and mental abuse you have endured will have a lingering effect on our society," she writes in a portion of the letter directed to victims. "Know that the burden is ours."

Of her own loss, Ono says: "I don't know if I am ready yet to forgive the one who pulled the trigger. ... But healing is what is urgently needed now in the world."

"Let's wish strongly that one day we will be able to say that we healed ourselves, and by healing ourselves, we healed the world."

In Memoriam: George Harrison

Five years ago on November 29, George Harrison passed away from cancer.

On November 11, 2006 in Los Angeles, a concert was held called "Remembering George Harrison and His Love of Indian Music" at The George & Sakaye Aratani Japan America Theater.

In attendance were Olivia and Dhani. Olivia made the opening remarks and dedication.

View the advertisement for the concert here:

You can read a review of the performance at Variety.com

The evening concluded with Olivia, Dhani, and all the musicians on stage in a heartwarming tribute to George.

The Theater Director announced they would try to remember George every year from now on with a tribute each November. The concert was sponsored by George's Material World Foundation.

Dick Clark is auctioning off a number of items from his personal collection of musical memorabilia, including the microphone he used beginning July 9, 1956 -- his first day on the rock 'n' roll show that made him famous.

Over 800 items to be sold which feature an abundance of Beatle items include a bass guitar that Paul McCartney played when he was a Beatle, a beaded glove that Michael Jackson wore in his moonwalking phase and the harmonica that Bob Dylan played in "The Last Waltz."

Clark, 76, described himself as "a pack rat" since childhood and said his scripts and memorabilia had filled 28,000 square feet in a California warehouse.
"I've got every Life magazine that was ever printed, because my grandmother saved them for me," he said. "I've got most of the Playboy magazines. I've got Fortune -- lovely photographs in there. I saved everything."

The auction is planned for Dec. 5-6 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Guernsey's said it would be a no-reserve auction, with everything selling for the highest bid.

Much of the profits from the sale were to go to the T.J. Martell Foundation, which was founded by the music industry to raise money for research on cancer and AIDS.
