Billboard.com reports that Wilbury Records/Rhino will release "Traveling Wilburys Volume 1" and "Traveling Wilburys Volume 3" together in one package with bonus tracks and a DVD of rare footage, as a deluxe linen-bound edition, a vinyl set and a digital bundle. The DVD boasts a 24-minute documentary and five music videos.

June 12 Release of John Lennon Covers Album
Instant Karma: The Amnesty Iinternational Campaign to Save Darfur

Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur, a collection of iconic songs by former Beatle and peace activist John Lennon recorded by an array of best-selling artists including U2, Green Day, R.E.M., Avril Lavigne, Big & Rich, and Snow Patrol, among others. The double album is due out on Warner Bros. Records June 12.
In keeping with its long tradition of combining music with activism, Amnesty International, the world's largest human rights organization, is launching this campaign to focus attention and mobilize activism around the urgent catastrophe in Darfur, Sudan. The "Bed-Ins for Peace" and "Instant Karma" events center on saving the lives of innocent women, children and men who are dying by the thousands in this region.

Green Day's newly recorded cover of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" became available for purchase through iTunes on April 30th, with all proceeds from sales of the track going to Amnesty International. The band will also shoot a video for the song.

June 5 release for First digital McCartney album!!

Paul McCartney's "Memory Almost Full" will be downloadable, marking the first time an entire album by Macca will be available legally online.

Although a few of McCartney's collaborations with other artists, and select tracks from both Ringo Starr and the John Lennon-Yoko Ono "Double Fantasy" album have been offered online, the Fab Four's music generally has been absent from online music stores and subscription services.

McCartney told Billboard a deal clearing the way for digital distribution has been "virtually settled" in light of the resolution of a lengthy trademark dispute between Apple Inc., the Mac computer maker, and Apple Corps, the Beatles' company.

The following letter from Paul McCartney was released relating to his new album "Memory Almost Full," due June 5 on Hear Music, the first release by the Starbucks and Concord Music Group-owned label.

BY PAUL McCARTNEY

I actually started this album, Memory Almost Full, before my last album Chaos And Creation In The Backyard (released September 2005). The first recording session was back in the autumn of 2003 at Abbey Road with my touring band and producer David Kahne. I was right in the middle of it when I began talking with Nigel Godrich about a brand new project (which became Chaos And Creation In The Backyard).

When I was just finishing up everything concerned with Chaos and had just got the Grammy nominations (2006) I realised I had this album to go back to and finish off. So I got it out to listen to it again, wondering if I would enjoy it, but actually I really loved it. All I did at first was just listen to a couple of things and then I began to think, ‘OK, I like that track - now, what is wrong with it?’ And it might be something like a drum sound, so then I would re-drum and see where we would get to.

I took it from there and built it up. I went through, track by track, making changes as I went along. I fixed things I wasn’t too keen on and it just evolved from there. Without me knowing, or really trying, it started to get its own theme, a sort of thread that holds it all together. So I suppose it’s about half new stuff and half old stuff from 2003.

In places it’s a very personal record and a lot of it is retrospective, drawing from memory, like memories from being a kid, from Liverpool and from summers gone. The album is evocative, emotional, rocking, but I can’t really sum it up in one sentence...

Ringo to release new album and live albums this year

therockradio.com reports that Ringo Starr's upcoming studio album, titled Liverpool 8, will be released in June. Longtime producer and collaborator Mark Hudson says that the album, which he co-produced with Starr and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, features a new "synthetic" direction for Starr, and steers him away from the Beatle-esque direction of his past four albums. The title of the album refers to Starr's original Liverpool postal code.

In addition to working on the studio set with Starr, Hudson has wrapped up work on Starr's still-untitled live album which was the soundtrack to the 2005 Soundstage concert aired on PBS. The show, which was taped in Chicago, is due out on May 8th.

The concert featured Starr and his former band the Roundheads tackling such Beatles and solo classics as "With A Little Help From My Friends," "Octopus' Garden," "Yellow Submarine," "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy," "Back Off Boogaloo," and others.
