The former Beatle has signed on to publish "High in the Clouds: An Urban Furry Tail" for the Penguin Young Readers Group, the publisher announced Wednesday. McCartney will team up with veteran children's book author Philip Ardagh and animator Geoff Dunbar. The picture book is to be released this October with a first print of 500,000 copies. "Having worked on this story and the characters for many years, it's very exciting for me to see things come to fruition in what I think will be a remarkable book," McCartney said in a statement. The book's story was inspired by an animated film called "Tropic Island Hum," on which Dunbar and McCartney collaborated. It will follow the story of two friends, a squirrel and a frog, who save a number of animals. ---- Ringo's new CD Choose Love is released on June 7 Read our review of Choose Love at http://www.daytrippin.com/reviews.htm Ringo will perform in NYC's Bryant Park on Friday, June 17, 2005 as part of the Good Morning America Concert Series. The eight-bedroom pad on the VAN VALKENBURG estate in Pasadena, California, featured in the 1960s BATMAN TV series as the home of the Caped Crusader's alter ego, millionaire BRUCE WAYNE. According to sources, McCartney wants the luxurious home to be an American base for him, wife HEATHER MILLS and their 18-month-old daughter BEATRICE. A friend says, "Paul has always loved Los Angeles. "A few years back, he bought COURTNEY LOVE's old home, but it's a bit small for them now." ---- from the Daily Post (UK) dailypost.co.uk FORMER Beatle Ringo Starr spoke for the first time about his old home in Liverpool being knocked down as part of the city's regeneration. Appearing at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show, he said he could not understand why 20,000 Merseyside homes, including his birthplace at 9 Madryn Street, Dingle, were being knocked down. Standing alongside his wife, Barbara Bach, the drummer said: "Why are they knocking them down? If it is economically viable they should do them up. "Are they going to knock out the centre of Liverpool again? That's what they did before. They moved everybody to high-rise apartments outside the city and forgot to rebuild." Ringo's former home, a 19th century terraced house, is threatened with demolition. The world-famous celebrity, who replaced Pete Best as the Beatles' drummer in 1962, was born in the Welsh streets and moved around the corner to Admiral Street where he lived for 20 years. He said: "I haven't lived there for so long. I believe it's now very nice. They even have bathrooms, which we never had," he added. The Liverpool scheme is part of measures rolled out across the country where rows of terraced houses across northern England will be bulldozed down. The historical legacy of buildings used by the Beatles has come under fire in the past. In 1972 the Cavern, where the band started their career and caught the eye of talent spotters, was levelled. In addition the Woolton children's home Strawberry Fields, made famous by the band's hit song, is earmarked for closure in 2007. Sir Paul McCartney was the first Beatle to turn his childhood home into a tourist attraction in 1998. At the time 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton, made history as it was the first 20th century building to be acquired by the National Trust because of its significance to popular culture. Later, the Menlove Avenue home of John Lennon, where he lived with his Aunt Mimi, was donated to the National Trust by his widow, Yoko Ono. ---- from the What Goes On Beatles News Site http://www.whatgoeson.com Gates shut to Strawberry Field The red iron gates of Strawberry Field were shut forever yesterday as the world-famous children's home closed down after 68 years. An emotional day marked the end of the home which inspired The Beatles' 1967 hit Strawberry Fields Forever. ? Rutles farewell tour in June 2005 After occasional bouts of Rutlemania since the "All You Need Is Cash" appeared in 1979, Ron Nasty has decided that the end of the road has come for the Prefab Four. A short Rutles farewell tour begins with two nights at London's 100 Club and ends in Southampton. http://www.smartermusic.net/rutlesbye.htm ---- from Liverpool Echo: THE head of a Japanese museum dedicated to John Lennon has toured the Beatle's childhood home to get inspiration for a new exhibition. Junichi Mizusawa, general manager of the world's first John Lennon Museum - in Saitama City outside Tokyo - has paid a visit to the National Trust-run house in Menlove Avenue, which was Lennon's home from the age of five. The Saitama museum is planning an exhibition from June to December dedicated to Lennon's early years with his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George, and life in Liverpool at the time. He said: "It's my first visit to Liverpool and the whole atmosphere is really special. "Everyone in Japan knows about John Lennon as a man and a member of The Beatles, but his childhood is relatively unknown. Now I've got the opportunity to introduce that to more people. "When I walked into John's bedroom I was almost in tears - such a giant came from such a small room. "However famous someone is, their background is really important because it makes them what they are and Liverpool was very important for the person John was." Mr, Mizusawa also met representatives of the Mersey Partnership, Cavern City Tours and The Beatles' Story earlier this week when he gave a presentation about the museum. Ninety percent of the museum's exhibits have been donated by Yoko Ono. Simon Osborne, Liverpool property manager for the National Trust said: "This year would have been John's 65th birthday, which is a cause for celebration both here, in Japan and around the world. We're looking forward to learning more about the exhibition as plans develop and will be pleased to help in any way we can." ----- Latest Beatle merchandise releases ---------------------------------- You can find a link to all the products mentioned at our Merchandise page at http://www.daytrippin.com/beatle_gifts.htm Children's book: High in the Clouds by Paul McCartney CD: Choose Love by Ringo Starr DVD: Paul McCartney: Live in Red Square Listen to the Book by John Blaney John Lennon : The New York Years by Bob Gruen (Photographer) Lennon Revealed by Larry Kane Meet the Beatles : A Cultural History of the Band That Shook Youth, Gender, and the World by Steven D. Her work has been exhibited at such international venues as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. This is the first museum exhibition since her death in 1998 of McCartney's work in her native country.
