Dear Subscriber,
Merry Christmas!
Today, I have only one word for you: archives. We are quite excited about this, because this is something we've been expecting to offer since Zinester was born. More details on this below in the issue.
Also, we are covering some aspects of the new CAN-SPAM law and, as usual, offering a few new ezines.
Happy holidays! Perhaps, you'll find some time to browse our new archives during the time. :)

Zinester Is Compliant to the New CAN-SPAM Law
Perpahs,
you already know that the new U.S. CAN-SPAM law was signed on December 16 and will become active on January 1, 2004. We have compared our system to the new law's requirements and figured that it fully complied with them. Read a special page on our site that we created: CAN-SPAM Compliance.
Thanks to Janet Roberts from Ezine-Tips for her explanations in her recent CAN-SPAM Is Law editorial.
Archives?
First, the bad news. We are still waiting for our designer to complete the sexy archives templates, that we are expecting from him. He's just too loaded up with work these days... But then, he's one of
the best guys in the industry - it makes sense to wait.
In the meanwhile, we have made him paint that beautiful Santa up there. :)
Now, the good news.
Good news number 1. The technical part of the Archives system has been completed. We believe we can already allow visitors in there, but please treat this as a beta version. If you notice any bugs or additional features that you'd like to see, please let us know
Good news number 2. The URLs of your archived issues will never change. Feel free to link to them from your sites.
Good news number 3. The Archives come with new ezine description pages. If you are listed in our Ezine Directory, you will notice that the Ezine Title is now a link
to that description page. If you are not listed, you will be able to figure out the URL by visiting other description pages - all you need is to know your Ezine ID. These links will never change as well - you can also link to these pages from your sites and newsletters.
On the description page we have placed links to 5 latest issues. See the Editor's Picks section for sample links.
Good news number 4. The Archives section will soon be added to the posting page. There will be several options like an ability to schedule archiving to a number of days or not archiving the current issue at all.
Good nows number 5. Zinester has been online for almost two years now - without the archives system. But nobody said issues were not saved in the database
- they just were't available online. This means that ezines, that have been with us for a while, will have all of their issues available instantly
Good news number 6. We'll be using Google AdWords in the archives templates for our free ezines (premiums will have blank templates, of course). AdWords was one of the best things we've discovered recently. AdWords are not ugly and distracting graphic ads, that everyone is so sick of nowadays - they are text ads, which are automatically targeted to the content of the particular page they are displayed on. We believe they will not distract readers and help Zinester to keep most of its services free and its Premium services cheaper.
Good news number 7. Zinester's Archives have been specifically
tuned for search engines. Every page is search engine optimized as far as it is possible in terms of HTML code. Our archives system is in fact dynamic (is technically a set of CGI scripts), but we've used one of our know-hows to make it look exactly like static HTML both to the user and to automatic crawlers (search engines). The dynamic structure allows the archives indexes to update fast and the issues to be easily linked with one another. While their static look improves search engine indexing and makes linking to the archived issues simpler.
Future plans for the Archives System include a search function, a tool that would allow you to delete or edit past issues and perhaps an option to make archives available to subscribers only (Premium feature).
Note. If you don't want
your ezine to be archived at all, please send us an email. We don't own your content, of course, and we don't want to make your content available without your consent.
As usual, please send us an email if you have any questions or comments: support@zinester.com
With care, Zinester's Team |
