Welcome everyone to Mocha Monday at Cappuccino’s Caf?.

Hello everyone. Thank you for your patience and understanding with regard to the delays of the newsletters.

My other had a great surgeon and anaesthetist who were ale to do the surgery with minimal impact on her chance of survival. What I didn’t mention before was that she also had colon cancer. With all her problems, her chance of survival was next to nil.

Thanks to all your prayers, she recovered. It has been extremely difficult for her, and especially for the family, as she is partially paralyzed and unable to communicate with anyone (speech was her greatest asset). She is a strong-willed woman who has no patience for illness. One night when she thought I was asleep, I was surprised to see, through the corner of my eye, that she was trying to exercise her arm and leg the way I had done the day before. She is determined to recuperate as quickly as possible and is extremely frustrated.

As you have been helpful in the past, I would like to make a special request. If anyone has had any experience with stroke victims, or has any information with regard to speech therapy, assistive devices, anything that could help her regain her speech, I would be very grateful for your suggestions.

Frosty Summer Treats and Great Recipes for a Luau

Today’s Recipe

Torta Alla Crema Italiana (Italian Cream Cake)

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
5 egg yolks
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut

Begin your cake by creaming together the butter and shortening with the sugar.

Add egg yolks and beat well.

Combine dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla. Add coconut and nuts. Fold in egg whites.

Pour batter into three greased nine-inch cake pans and bake in a 350 F degree oven for approximately 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Remove cake from oven and allow to cool completely before filling and icing.

Glace

8 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
4 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons light cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Cream together the cream cheese and butter. Add the sugar, cream and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy.

Invert one layer on cake plate and spread with 1/4 of the icing.

Repeat with the second layer. When third layer has been added, use remaining icing to cover the entire cake.

Sprinkle nuts over top (sides too if you like) and voil?! you will have yourself a beautiful and delicious Torta Alla Crema Italiana!

For a slightly less sweet version, substitute the cream cheese icing with sweetened whipped cream.

But don't forget the nuts!

Then gather your friends and family around and cut them each a generous slice of Italy to enjoy.

Two Nuns

There were two nuns….one was known as Sister Mathematical (SM) and the other was known as Sister Logical (SL)

It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.

SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for the past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants.

SL: It’s logical. He wants to rape us.

SM: Oh, no? At this rate, he will reach us in 15 minutes at the most? What can we do?

SL: The only logical thing to do, of course, is to walk faster.

SM: It’s not working!

SL: Of course it’s not working. The man did the only logical thing. He started to walk faster too.

SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute.

So the man decided to follow Sister Logical.

Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is worried about what has happened to Sister Logical.

Then Sister Logical arrives.

SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here!. Tell me what happened!

SL: The only logical thing happened. The man couldn’t follow us both, so he followed me.

SM: Yes, yes! But what happened then?

SL: The only logical thing happened. I started to run as fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could.

SM: And?

SL: The only logical thing happened. He reached me.

SM: Oh, dear? What did you do?

SL: The only logical thing to do. I lifted my dress up.

SM: Oh, Sister! What did the man do?

SL: The only logical thing to do. He pulled down his pants.

SM: Oh, no! What happened then?

SL: Isn’t it logical Sister?

A nun with her dress up can run faster than a man with his pants down.
