OTTAWA, November 12, 2006 - The Canadian
Food Inspection
Agency (CFIA) and Hershey Canada Inc. are warning the public
not to consume certain chocolate products described below
because
these products may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Hershey Canada Inc., Mississauga,
Ontario, is voluntarily recalling
these products from the marketplace. This recall does not
affect
Halloween or Christmas items. However, consumers are advised
to
check the codes identified below. The CFIA is monitoring the
effectiveness of the recall.
Only products with date codes from 6417 to 6455, produced
from
October 15 to November 10, are affected by this alert. The
date
codes can be found on the back of each unit. For more

Today’s Recipes
Baked Rice Pudding
1/2 cups uncooked rice
3 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 tsp. lemon or orange zest, grated
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
whipped cream (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Combine all ingredients in a 2 quart oven-proof casserole or
baking dish. Bake for about 2-1/2 hours or until the rice is tender and all the
milk has been absorbed. Stir occasionally during cooking time.
Serve warm or chilled. Top with whipped cream if desired.

Apple Crunch
Topping:
1 cup sugar
1 cup unbleached white flour
? tsp. cinnamon
1 cup dark brown sugar lightly packed
? cup old-fashioned rolled oats
8 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted and cooled
Filling:
6 tart apples, peeled and quartered
1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
? cup chopped pecans or walnuts
2 tbsp. sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Combine the dry ingredients with butter to make a coarse meal.
2. In a glass deep-dish pie plate or
baking dish, combine apples, lemon juice, nuts and the remaining sugar.
Sprinkle topping over fruit.
3. Bake at 400 degrees for the first
15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for 25
minutes or until the top is golden brown.

one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related

discussion on the word "tragedy". So the

One little boy stood up and offered: "If my best

that would be a 'tragedy'"
"No," said Blair, "that would be an
accident."
A little girl raised her hand: "If a school bus

drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a
tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," explained the Prime Minister
"That's what we would
call a great loss."
The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Tony
searched the
room. "Isn't there someone here who can give me an
example of tragedy?"
Finally, at the back of the room, a small boy raised his
hand.........
In a quiet voice he said: "If the airplane carrying you
and Mrs. Blair
was struck by a "friendly fire" missile &
blown to smithereens, that
would be a tragedy.
"Fantastic!" exclaimed Tony Blair. "That's
right. And can you tell me
why that would be a tragedy?" "Well," says
the boy "It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly
wouldn't be a great loss and
it probably wouldn't be a f*****g
accident either."

Airplane Repairs
Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only
a
high school diploma to fix one (reassurance for those of us
who fly routinely in our jobs).
After every flight, Qantas (Australia's
major airline) pilots fill
out a form, called a "gripe sheet," which tells
mechanics about
problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the
problems, document their repairs on the form, and then
pilots
review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it
be
said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some
actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots
(marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an
S) by maintenance engineers.
By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never,
ever, had an accident.
P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
P: Auto-pilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per
minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to: straighten up, fly right, and be
serious.
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

midget pounding on something with a hammer.
