Welcome to Cappuccino’s Freebie Caf?.
Good morning!!!
Well…I’m back ….. sort of. Murphy’s Law states that anything
that can happen to ME – will. This has been one h**l of a
rollercoaster year for me. We had a lot of work to do to accommodate my mother
and her wheelchair (ramps, shower, walkways) and we’re still
not finished. My time is divided among nurses, therapists, occupational
therapists and doctors’ appointments. By the time the evening comes,
I’m too tired to do anything else.
You have all been great though. Even though I have been
off-line many times, I have not lost a member yet. Thank you for your
loyalty. Before you continue on, you have got to watch this amazing
10 year-old boy. All I can say is WOW and more WOW!!!! If you cannot see it, view it here http://tinyurl.com/k2qq7.
May your hearts be happy, your mailboxes full and the mailman forever busy. Until next week, Happy
Hunting!!!!

P.S. Be a pal ….. tell your friends about Cappuccino’s Freebie
Caf?. Let’s make it the #1 site on the net. In order to
do that, your vote once each day will make it happen. Many thanks.
Now that summer’s over and kids are going back to school,
ensuring your child has a proper back pack can go a long way to
preventing back problems which can last into adulthood.
Today's kids are prone to back problems, much like adults.
You only need to look at a group of children heading off to school
and you'll see why: huge, bulky backpacks that hang from their
shoulders are a major source of concern. Other troubles stem from a child's
posture while sitting at a desk at school, sitting in front of a
computer, or playing video games.
Backpacks
The weight of backpacks and similar items and the
distribution of that weight across the back can play a role in damaging the
muscles in the back. Whether the load is books, a musical
instrument, or a hockey bag, it can disrupt the natural alignment of the
spine if it is not carried correctly. Damage to children's backs may affect
their health, growth, and overall well-being. Back- related problems that
are not detected early could progress into adulthood.
Tips for choosing a backpack
A great first step is to be aware, and make sure that your
child is aware, that a backpack may be too big or too heavy. Ask your
child periodically whether or not the backpack is causing any
discomfort, and look for signs of discomfort and strain in case your
child is trying to "tough it out." If there is a problem, your
doctor can help you find an appropriate treatment.
To maintain your child's good spine health,
look for the following things when purchasing a
backpack:
1. Adjustable, padded straps that are at least 5 cm (2
inches) wide 2. Lightweight material (canvas is a good choice) 3. Hip strap 4. Several compartments to store items of various sizes 5. Wheels that allow the backpack to be pulled
Encourage your children to bring home only the necessary
items from school on a daily basis. They should only carry around items
they will be using that day — they shouldn't use their backpack as a
storage locker! Cleaning out the backpack from time to time will
keep it lighter too.
Video games, computers, and posture
Many children today spend an incredible amount of time in
front of a computer monitor or television screen. With an average of
eight hours per day of time spent staring at a screen, children are at
risk for many problems, including:
1. Back injury due to poor posture 2. Obesity due to lack of exercise 3. Eye strain 4. Repetitive-stress injuries (often linked to carpal tunnel
syndrome)
Poor posture is a major factor when kids are playing video
games or doing their homework at the computer. Make sure they have a
good chair that fits them properly. But also make sure that the
child is sitting comfortably with good posture. Good sitting posture means:
1. Chin parallel to the floor 2. Ears lined up with the shoulders 3. Feet comfortably touching the floor - if they are not,
use a foot rest or adjust the height of the chair 4. Lower back at the back of the chair
Teach your children proper posture from an early age and
help them to become aware of how they are sitting, even when you're
not around. Sitting properly at school and while doing homework
will give your children long-term health benefits and will also
help prevent injury.

Rachel Ray’s No Bake Ice
Cream Cake
Ingredient
1 pound cake loaf (vanilla, chocolate or swirl; bout 10 oz.) 1/4 cup spiced rum, or any liqueur you have on hand 1 rectangular box (1/2-gallon) vanilla, chocolate or swirl
ice cream, slightly softened 1 jar (10 to 12 oz.) chocolate sauce 1 cup cocoa powder
Directions
1. Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap so that it is
completely covered, with enough plastic to overhang.
2. Cut the pound cake lengthwise in 4 equal rectangular
slabs. Cut 1 of the rectangles in half widthwise, then cut another one
of the rectangles in half lengthwise. You should have 2 full slabs,
2 thin rectangular strips and 2 squares. Layer the loaf pan with 1
of the full slabs on the bottom, then the 2 strips on either side.
Place the 2 squares of pound cake on each end of the pan. Trim as
necessary. The loaf pan should now be completely lined with pound cake.
3. Lightly brush the pound cake with liqueur. Scoop the ice
cream into the cavity of the pound cake and smooth it out with a
small offset spatula or your fingertips so that it’s even all
around the pan. Once the pan is full of ice cream, lay the remaining piece
of pound cake on top and press it down. Cover the cake with the
plastic wrap and put it back in the freezer for at least an hour.
4. Using the overhanging plastic wrap to help you pull it
out, remove the ice cream cake from the pan. Place on a serving
platter and unwrap. Drizzle with chocolate sauce, sprinkle with
cocoa powder and serve.

A photographer for CNN was assigned to cover southern California's
Wildfires. He wanted pictures of the heroic work the
Firefighters were doing as they battled the blazes. When the photographer
arrived on the scene, he realized that the smoke was so thick it would
seriously impede, or even make impossible, his getting good photographs from
the ground level. He requested permission from his boss to rent a plane
and take photos from the air.
His request was approved and he used his cell phone to call
the local County airport to charter a flight. He was told a single
engine plane would be waiting for him at the airport.
Arriving at the airfield, he spotted a plane warming
up outside a hangar. He jumped in with his bag, slammed the door shut, and
shouted, "Let's go." The pilot taxied out, swung the plane into the
wind and roared down
the runway. Once in the air, the photographer instructed the
pilot, "Fly over the valley and make two or three low passes so I can
take some pictures of the fires on the hillsides."
"Why?" asked the pilot.
"Because I'm a photographer for CNN," he
responded. "And I need to get some close-up shots."
The pilot was strangely silent for a moment, finally he
stammered, "So, what you're telling me, is . . you're NOT my
flight instructor?"

The doctor that had been seeing an 80-year-old woman for
most of her life finally retired. At her next check-up, the
new doctor told her to bring a list of all the medicines that had been
prescribed for her.
As the young doctor was looking through these, his eyes grew
wide as he realized she had a prescription for birth control
pills.
"Mrs. Smith, do you realize these are BIRTH CONTROL
pills"
"Yes, they help me sleep at night".
"Mrs. Smith, I assure you there is absolutely NOTHING
in these that could possibly help you sleep!"
She reached out and patted the young Doctor's knee.
"Yes, dear, I know that. But every morning, I grind one up and mix it in
the glass of orange juice my 16 year old granddaughter
drinks.........and believe me, It helps me sleep at night."
You gotta love Grandmas!
