<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Good morning and welcome to Cappuccino’s Freebie Cafe.

Well….I’ve been in agony this past week with a slipped disk and
Sciatica. I still have a long way to go before my back heals but I
managed to sit for a while each day and got a few freebies for you.

There seems to be a little contest going on between the top sites on
Soprano’s Best of the Best so I have a favour to ask. I’m thrilled to
be in the top 25 but can you imagine, if each and every one of you
voted just once this week, what level would we reach? So I ask you
to take two seconds of your time and vote just once. That would
give us over 1,000 votes. WOW!!! Go ahead, make my day. I
could sure use a moral boost right now. Thanks to you all.

RE: ELECTION DAY OCT. 10th (must read)
It’s obvious that the majority of us are not thrilled with the
presently elected officials. Well….in my old riding, Gatto Lucky
(hee, hee) has been nominated to run for office. I’m sure he will do
a much better job for the citizens of our neighbourhood than the
elected official we have now (giggle, giggle). I recommend we
all vote for Lucky on October 10th. Visit Lucky’s website at

http://www.votecat.net/ for more information and a few more
giggles. VOTE FOR LUCKY. What a handsome devil he is.

May your hearts be happy, your mailboxes full and the
mailman forever busy. Until next week, Happy Hunting!!!!

Cappuccino

P.S. Be a pal ….. tell your friends about Cappuccino’s Freebie
Cafe. Let’s make it the #1 site on the net. In order to do that,
your vote once each day will make it happen. Many thanks.

Brown Butter Creamy Apple Pie

Ingredients

Filling

1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour (I prefer cornstarch)
1 tsp. vanilla
5 cups sliced peeled Granny Smith apples (5 medium)

Crust

1 Pillsbury Pet Ritz frozen deep dish pie crust

Streusel

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 cup firm butter

Topping

1/2 cup whipping cream
1 tbsp. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

1. Heat oven to 400° F. Place cookie sheet in oven to heat. In
1 quart saucepan, cook 1/4 cup butter over medium heat, stirring
constantly, until melted and lightly browned. Cool completely,
about 15 minutes.

2. In large bowl, beat 1/2 cup granulated sugar and the egg with
wire whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in 2 tbsp. flour and 1 tsp.
vanilla. Beat in cooled butter. Gently stir in apples. Pour into
crust-lined pan.

3. In medium bowl, stir together all streusel ingredients except
butter. With pastry blender or fork, cut in 1/4 cup butter until
mixture look like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apples. Place
pie on cookie sheet in oven.

4. Bake 20 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° F. and cover
edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning.
Bake 40 to 50 minutes longer or until apples are tender and
crust is golden brown. Cool 2 hours.

5. In small bowl, beat whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add
remaining topping ingredients, beat until stiff peaks form. Pipe
or spoon onto pie.

European English:

The European Commission has just announced an agreement
whereby English will be the official language of the European
Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted
a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make
the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in
favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan
have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be
expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are
possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which
have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag
is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th'
with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'.

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords
kontaining 'ou' and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees had not
phoned in sick one day. Having an urgent problem with one of the
main computers, he dialed the employee's home phone number and
was greeted with a child's whisper. "Hello? "

"Is your daddy home?" he asked.

"Yes," whispered the small voice.

May I talk with him?"

The child whispered, "No."

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is
your Mommy there?"

"Yes."

"May I talk with her?"

Again the small voice whispered, "No."

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message,
the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?"

"Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman".

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the
boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?"

"No, he's busy", whispered the child.

"Busy doing what?"

"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the
whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background
through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, "What is that
noise?"

"A helicopter" answered the whispering voice.

"What is going on there?" demanded the boss, now truly
apprehensive.

Again, whispering, the child answered, "The search team just
landed a helicopter."

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, "What
are they searching for?"

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...
"ME."
