I was taking to a preacher man
this morning on my computer. You know the e-mail
stuff. Something was said about sermons. He seems to
think kind of like I do. That is, take a verse, a story of
something in the Bible, and really paint a picture, not just
draw a black and white picture, but put color to the
painting.
Too many preachers and teachers of
the Bible in churches, cannot, or will not paint the
picture. One has to take a person to the story, give
them the color in the painting, it isn't all black and
white.
The story of something in the
Bible, anyone can read it, but if there is no color, it
becomes just so dry, no wonder many drop off to dream land.
Now let’s take the young David
going to battle with that fellow, Goliath. We all know the
story. Most of the preachers and Sunday school teachers just
draw a black and white picture. There are so many pictures
one can paint here. David is packing a basket of
goodies to his older brothers. One can tell why he is
packing the goodies by the welcome he got. Remember
his brothers kind of had ill feelings toward him. One could
paint a picture on that point alone. Then, when he is
talking to his brothers, and they are looking and munching
on the goodies, he hears this loudmouth over-sized fool out
there yelling insults, and cursing the Living God. David
can't understand why someone doesn't step up and go do God's
work in destroying this loudmouth. And again he gets
talked down to by his brothers. There is another picture to
paint. You see a good Sunday school teacher could spend many
Sundays taking a small-fry class step by step in painting
pictures here. One can draw a black and white, and have it
done in minutes, or one can put color to it, and draw it
out. There are many paintings that can be done of this young
boy going out there with nothing but a sling shot, and the
Armor of God.
Yes the Bible is full of stories.
Stories that can be black and white, but color can be added,
and what a painting can be had.
Remember this, learning is much
like dining on a meal. Meat and potatoes are nice, but add
some green beans, some corn, or other veggies, a hot roll
and you have a real good meal. One needs to add more
than just the meat and potatoes to a story. There are the
veggies that sure help make the story much better. The
Bible gives the preacher or teacher the meat and potatoes,
but preacher and the teacher have to cook up the veggies and
the hot roll.
