I met little Brenda at the
hospital when my daughter happened to be a patient in 1967.
She was starved for attention and affection.? Due to her
family's hardship circumstances, they were unable to be with
her very much. Each time that I visited, I would spend some
time with her. She had cerebral palsy, was very smart and
loved to sing.
At this time, it was getting
close to Christmas. The hospital always had a Christmas
party from the Ruth Lyons Christmas fund. Various
entertainers would volunteer their services for this event.
One of the entertainers who was quite the singer was 'Big
Red.' It was her turn to meet with the children to take
their requests. Little Brenda requested that she sing 'Your
Cheating heart.' She sang right along with the celebrity
without missing a word. It was a very heart touching moment.
