Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am
a Soldier and a Catholic Man. I have a few thoughts
that I would like to share:
Prayer is a wonderful fulfilling thing that brings you
closer to God. Prayer can be healing to the mind and
soul.
But
I have something I'd like for you to think about. Why
not support the President and the soldiers and your
countrymen and women by taking action? Don't Pray a
Vote. Go out and vote! Don't just pray for your
soldier and put stickers on your vehicles that say
"Support Our Troops." Try sending them a care package;
there are plenty of soldiers who could use the
knowledge that their countrymen and women support them
more than by putting a $1.59 sticker on your vehicle
just because all your friends have them. Send a
soldier who's in Iraq or Afghanistan a letter with
pictures telling him or her that you love them and
that you PRAY for their safety. Tell them that when
they come home they won't be spat upon and rejected by
their own country; that you will greet them with open
arms and tears of joy.
Prayer is wonderful. But action is the work of God
through you. Be an Instrument of God.
If
you want to make things happen, sometimes you have to
go out and do it yourself. Soldiers (and even some
politicians!) pray... what they are praying for is not
for God to come down upon them and scoop them up, but
they pray for YOU to help. You can help by voting, you
can help by writing letters to your legislature about
the condition of schools, you can write letters and
send care packages to soldiers overseas or to their
families.
People often pray for help. I say if you ask God for
strength, God will give you something heavy to lift. I
think if you pray for help, God will send you a person
to help you. But if your only solution is to pray for
others, then you are shorting God his helpers. He
needs you and so do real people. So after you are done
with your hour-long prayer vigil, go out and do
something for your community, for your state, for your
country. Take action.
Thank you.
