Finding My Nitch Finding our 'nitch' in life is not always easily done. My Christian goal has been to be useful to someone in need of any services that I have to offer. I do not wish to seek glory for my offer of service, just finding some small way to serve our Lord through my giving. I had this nagging feeling that someone in my area could use my help. This lady, Verla, kept coming to mind so with some hesitation, I called her on the telephone. She was very receptive to my call and invited me to pay her a visit at my leisure. Verla has macular degeneration which limits her ability to read visually so she depends on audio books for her love of reading. I offered to call her each day and share my daily devotions with her. Even though Verla is not the young lady that she used to be, she is very alert and immerses herself in the book or any readings. One thing led to another in our conversation and we realized that we had a great deal in common but the most significant was the fact that we are both are Christians who wish to serve and worship the Lord. We started out by my reading her our daily devotions which we found very enlightening as we would discuss the message as to how it affected us. In fact, the devotions seemed to be more enjoyable with this sharing. I am sure that Verla remembers as well as I do when we were reading a book series. One of the tapes that she needed for one of them had been broken and the library was not sure it could be repaired. With that in mind, I volunteered to read the book to her in parts as I was reading the same number in the series that she was missing. Oh my, did we have a great time or what? We enjoyed this reading to the hilt by looking ahead mentally trying to guess what was going to turn up next. Verla added to my life, as well, because she is an accomplished pianist. We both love the old hymns so Verla would 'tickle the ivories' while we harmonized. I am sure that Verla enjoyed this time with me just as I did with her. There is a saying that says: "be careful what you wish for!" I will complete that saying with the end result that I received much more than I gave. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
