Suicide Update

A number of our members have written or called Joey with advice on Cincinnati agencies. I will try to mount a donation drive once I call and see if it's okay to publish his address.

Nuts, I see 53 people unsubscribed. Looks like not everyone thinks this is important, or a wise thing to do. Oh well, I do.

The Ohio Dept of Insurance, of course, washed their hands of the whole thing. Most DOIs are unhelpful if not corrupt. I wrote their head a strong letter for all the good it will do.

Someone suggested a political angle. If you aren't aware, although you should be since many insurance victims are close to the street, social services in most states are near bankruptcy for various reasons. And at the same time, jobs are being lost, people are in debt and that idiot Greenspan is saying they should remortgage even more to cover their massive credit card debt. Of course, he's a banker and the bankers will end up owning all the property once they go broke and default, so it's sure a good idea for him and his cronies.

But the end result, as the economy continues to tank, is that many more people will face life on the streets at a time when the social safety net has been Totally shredded, since the government thinks only of more tax cuts for the super-wealthy.

So that's a political issue. Here is the suggestion to make a call, if you want to pitch in. They may have already left Ohio, but the issues of joblessness, balooning mortgages, a failing economy and a shredded safety net is not going away.

This isn't politics - it's activism for a Person. Besides, both parties are welcome to address the issue - in fact, some Republican Governors are starting to complain that their states are falling off a cliff. It's just that from a strategic point of view, Edwards might be more likely to raise an issue that an incumbent would rather not deal with. (I'm not sure about Kerry since MA is a big insurer state, but I guess it couldn't hurt.)

======
John Kerry 614-340-1997 614-487-1051 (fax), Dennis Kucinich  (866) 413-3664, and John Edwards phone 216-522-9005 or 9006 fax 216-522-9007, are now trooping throughout Ohio in preparation for next Tuesday.

It has been suggested I phone, but perhaps it would be better were one of you guys to phone to enlist their support.  However, the clock is ticking away.
=====

Okay, call or fax if you want to. Edwards is the more likely I think, since his career has been fighting insurers. But you never can tell what might stick to the wall, so don't neglect other politicians if you know of any.

As I said, so far the Ohio dept of insurance has given their usual "we can't help the taxpayer, only the insurer" baloney. Maybe we could raise a national issue.

And yes, I'm not just doing politics. Lots of people are now in motion on getting plain old direct help.

I will publish an address later and ask for rent donations. Let's help I don't get More unsubscribes on that one.

Jim
