Some Thoughts on Christmas Day It is of course, time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Better New Year. I've never been much for formal holidays, since I feel we should be good, compassionate and generous all year long, not just at Christmas. Still, this is a deeper holiday than most know. Going far beyond the buying of presents, older than civilization or religion. This is a time for the death of the old and a rebirth of the new. When the longest nights of the year begin to shorten. So it has been for ten million years. A time to mull over life, then plant seeds that will bloom in the Spring. As every year, I hope that in this year, Truth and Justice will prevail. That almost seems impossible with the forces arrayed against the truth - the massive power of government, the tandem corruption of the corporate world, and a sleeping, controlled media. All of which try to make us feel we are powerless ants. But this is simply a lie. I have always beleived that we, each one of us, has the power to change the world. That one person armed with truth can defeat ten thousand who lie. It is not always easy, it requires hard work, persistence, you take a lot of knocks, and it sure doesn't pay the way the Devil does ;') But I truly believe it is possible. For one thing, lies destroy themselves. They cannot cohere; they cannot live; they cannot even cooperate. And sooner or later they come crashing down. Let us hope this is the year they come crashing down, or at least begin to falter. The key to defeating them is Persistence, and Hope, and Good Cheer. For there is good in every day of life if you find it. Ignore the Great Robbers, for they already belong to darkness and will reap what they sow. Enjoy each small thing, forgetting the battle except when you are directly in it. If it be a warm cup of tea or a beautiful sunset or the word of a friend, cherish each single thing. This is a time to rest, to renew, to gird yourself for battle - but not to battle right now. And don't beleive all that you see and hear. The new year may bring new things, not all of them salutary. But as we have seen of the many things I have told here, much of what you are told is not true, or the great mass of truth is omitted while you are diverted with the trivial. Don't take anything at first glance. That is the lesson of Winter. You must mull things over rather than be forced off balance. For an off balance man or woman cannot think and is easily controlled. Keeping us off balance is what the controllers and exploiters of the world want. And they are many. But in the end they will be defeated by the calm truth. Watch. And Wait. And Listen. And when you know the Truth, Act. So enjoy the season, enjoy each day in every way you can. Rest and be happy as best you can. Cherish what you have and who you know. Be glad you are not one with the liars and those who would harm others for their own gain. That alone is reason for happiness - that you did not take a wrong turn in life and become one of them. It is so very, very easy to go down that slippery slope, and many have. They may seem to ride high and they may seem to have power, but each one meets his end alone, without the power or money they have stolen from others. Then, the only wealth we have to warm us and strengthen us is who we are and what we have done. So be of good cheer. I don't know when lies will end. I don't know when the true Spring will come. But I do know and can already see that the Great Liars have already sown the seeds of their own destruction. We have but to watch and wait and be ready with the rod of truth when they are finally exposed. But in the meantime we can be who we are, be glad that we are who we are, and take the gift of each day and each single thing and know that they are precious. This is the secret of true wealth. The greatest and most powerful have no more than this - each day and each single thing. All else that they have is a waste and a weight around their neck that often keeps them from even farther from the wealth that each one of us is given. Our time on earth, which should not be wasted piling up things. So have a cup of tea. Look at a sunset. Speak to a friend. Read a good book. Be warm and prepare for the coming battle, but rest for now. It is still Winter. And be glad that although oppression may be hard at times, you are not, even worse, one of the oppressors. You are not as they. They have made their choice and you have made yours. And what you are is no more nor less than that - the choices you make. It is not your body, or your mind, or your wealth or health or claim to fame. Just each single choice, made every day. So make good choices in the New Year. Give yourself joy and help others wherever you can. Seek wisdom. And know that the choice itself is the wealth you are given, that you give to yourself as a gift to yourself. What comes afterward is only the anticlimax. It is in the very moment of choice that we know who we are and why we are here. The action itself is the explanation, and no other is required. And eventually truth will prevail. So again, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year. Jim |
